My wife saw an episode of House Hunters where a couple in Florida were looking for a vacation home in CR. Below is the epsiode. My wife could not believe how nice the home was and how cheap (for overlooking the ocean). They mention the city below. Any insight??

Kate and Matt Shaw are always on the move. He's busy with a booming real estate business, and her days are filled with toting around their two small sons, Luke and Justin. Although they live near the beach in Jupiter, Fla., their day-to-day lives leave little time for surfer Matt to catch a wave, or for the family to have quality time together. They are ready to buy a vacation home in the Central American country of Costa Rica. Real estate agents Lourdes Brechu and Patrick Heaney hope to help the Shaws find a place where they can go to slam the brakes on their normally crazy pace.

Its in Junquillal, Guanacaste. Beautiful area, in my opinion the nicest area of the country.

I can't really tell you how the real estate market is doing here in Costa Rica, but construction has dropped a lot in recent months. A lot of condo projects in that Guanacaste area are on hold right now.

I saw the episode as well, in the last month they have shown THREE episodes based in CR

as consequence of the world economic crisis.......and like Jack said, there has been an abrupt stop in construction, jaco has many buildings half way through that have .....PERHAPS 3 units sold.

I saw it ....and well, what they don't show is the baggage that comes with it

to start with, unless its a gated community (And even if it is....there is still risk) then you simply CAN NOT leave it alone ......or else things WILL dissapear from it

other challenges of living there include (But are not limited to) access to hospitals, condition of roads, availability of water and telephone lines etc etc

we (as in my wife and I) recently bought a property in the US (She is from there), it would cost us at least......3x the price to get that property in the Central Valley IF AT ALL

if anything, I would just recommend to wait a year more......THEN the developers/sellers of properties here will be as (or more) desperate as current sellers are in the US , the realtors are still playing the 'this market is different, we have European customers too, we haven't had a massive discount in values.....etc etc' card in here

I just retrieved the episode from the tivo.

they picked 'house #2' LOL, which seems to be in a gated community and came with a pool etc , I would have picked the same as both house 1 and 3 were more expensive (and also looked like stand alone houses' )
