I take it as a compliment as long as the said person isn't in the know. If they do know it's your girl, or continue to hit on your girl then it may be time to get a little more physical.

Isn't there some unwritten guy rule that if a dude hits on your girl unknowingly that she is spoken for and that if the boyfriend calls him out on it that the other guy must act in a respectful manner and back down if he is called on his actions? Just like the old rule you don't challenge somebody to a fight when they are with their kids and if you are with your kids don't start shit with anybody? In my neighborhood it has always been this way.

Yep. It also depends on the exact scenario....in other words if you are in the market in a completely separate aisle then he has the right to take a chance and hope she is single, but if you are in the same space and even talking with one another...depending on the kind of day I had I may react before my lady has a chance to.

Well if it's disrespectful, I would start with a warning first. If he grabs her ass or pulls or her arm or touches her in any way...then it's on like Donkey Kong.

Right on....I encounter this upon occasion, especially at a couple of our more honky tonk sports pubs. Much more fun to team up with witty SheBar and just deride the guy verbally until everyone within the entire joint knows he's a pathetic rube.

hitting is different than verbal abuse. The wife can handle the verbal abuse but if a dude hits my girl/wife, you have to interfere, my wife cannot fight a dude.
