As a former player and member of the nhlpa I'll tell ya that even next years season is in jeopordy. the main deal is money as usual. But as a former union member you'll see the union pull even tighter with the euro inviting players for less money but the love of hockey is still there and not based on money..YET!:kicking:

Try - IMO this year has very little chance of seeing any games being played. I would guess there is at least a 90% chance the season is lost. Being charitable.

I do miss NHL action sad to say.

Hey applepicks, what's your rookie card worth?

I think the owners will 'break' the union this time. The game has been ruined by the success of several of the of the top player agents. They're really the ones pulling the strings. When this season is cancelled and talk of repacement players for next season heats up, the players will panic, tell their agents to stfu and make major concessions.

How about some nhlpa insight? What do they players receive during the lockout from the union lockout/strike kitty?

A look at the NHL lockout through Wednesday Nov. 17th.:

TOTAL DAYS OF LOCKOUT: 63.

TOTAL DAYS OF SEASON MISSED: 36.

GAMES LOST WEDNESDAY: 8.

TOTAL GAMES MISSED: 232.

NEGOTIATIONS: Dozens of agents met with NHL players' association leaders in Chicago on Wednesday to get information on where things stand. The NHL and union haven't held a negotiating session since Sept. 9 one week before the lockout was imposed.

WEDNESDAY'S BEST CANCELED GAME: Detroit at San Jose. The Red Wings were the only Western Conference team that had more points than the Sharks last season.

ICE CHIP: Detroit earned an NHL-best 109 points, five more than San Jose, but was knocked out by Calgary in the second round of the playoffs. The Sharks were eliminated by Calgary in the Western Conference finals.

As a lifelong hockey fan, its really sad to see this happening. A lot of my fav players growing up are in their 30's and its one less year to see them. Plus just having hockey on tv during this time of year is something i am used to and almost took for granted. Plus im a huge Blackhawks fan and I was actually excited about this season, young guys getting experience and Barnaby is here. he was born to wear the sweater. Now i just hope he plays a game for them

Just a guess but I am starting to think breaking the union might be the result. This isn't the NBA where superstars are what it takes to get fans. Most are loyal to their team and just love the sport, not necessarily the stars themselves. I don't know what the reaction would be, but the owners could easily bring in a lot of quality players with the minors filled with "independent" players and of course all the European players. I hope it doesn't come to that, but above the other major sports this is the one that could get away with it. The quality of hockey action has gotten to be so mediocre I sense not too many people would miss it. Not to mention most of the players making the big money are over 35, that also makes it prime season to get in younger blood and break the union. The owners can impose the salary cap and guys that were piddling away making less than the average salary of Americans can suddenly pull down a solid six figures per man playing the game they love. It just screams bust the union too loudly to be dismissed IMO.

An Arturo Gatti fan from MA? Better not let the boys from Lowell see that...

I can't wait for yet another Gatti fight down at the AC Boardwalk Hall.
