A Lady Named Irena Sendler
By John Coleman, Coleman’s Corner

Recently a 98-year-old lady named Irena Sendler died.

During WWII, Irena got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive.

Being German, she KNEW what the Nazi’s plans were for the Jews. Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she also carried in the back of her truck a Burlap sack, (for larger children).

She also had a dog in the back of the truck that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog, but the barking covered the children/infants noises.

During her time and course of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children/infants.

She was caught, and the Nazi’s broke both her legs and arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the children she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it, and reunited the families. Most, of course, had been gassed.

Those children she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted out.

Last year, Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

She LOST.

Al Gore won for doing a slide show on Global Warming.

More on Irena...

Most of the children who left with Sendler's group were taken into Roman Catholic convents, orphanages and homes and given non-Jewish aliases. Sendler recorded their true names on thin rolls of paper in the hope that she could reunite them with their families later. She preserved the precious scraps in jars and buried them in a friend's garden.

In 1943, she was captured by the Nazis and tortured but refused to tell her captors who her co-conspirators were or where the bottles were buried. She also resisted in other ways. According to Felt, when Sendler worked in the prison laundry, she and her co-workers made holes in the German soldiers' underwear. When the officers discovered what they had done, they lined up all the women and shot every other one. It was just one of many close calls for Sendler.

There won't be a movie. Not even a T.V. special or even a T-shirt because the story is just that, a story. One of many fables from a time long ago.

Infants in a tool box eh. It should have at least had an honerable mention for it's originality.

Wait a minute. Beck is saying that she was in charge of turberculosis but your story says she was a plumber/sewer specialist? Which one is it? or is it both. Was she actually a trained plumber. Really! A female plumber from 1945?!

Beck says she carried the children out in a burlap sack or even a casket! But your stupid story says she used her plumber's tool box. Is it ok if I add that she used an ice-cream truck?

Beck never heard of this story until last year. I believe him because I never heard or this ridicules story until this morning. Could it have been the last memories of an elderly women suffering from dementia? Could it be that the women was unable to have children herself and used the opportunity to steal (or save in her mind) one child? Are we to believe that these poor Jews in Warsaw willing gave thier children to a German women they did not know without suspicion? Would you have? If you don't have kids don't even try to answer that.

When she was caught she was horribly beaten BUT... managed to escape the Nazi SS by BRIBING the gaurd. (unknown how many gaurds she bribed but it would appear that one was enough and he managed to smuggle this women who could not walk out of prison. Presumably using her very successful burlap bag or casket trick!) LOL. Wait, it gets better.

She was eventually interned in an old age home and was taken care of by....yes you guessed it...a women who was one of the 2500!!!! children she saved.LOL. Jesus-Bald-Headed Christ, just wait till Oprah gets a wiff of this story.
