prime example was the sooners against tulsa last year. very vanilla offense. didn't want to show anything. was only beating tulsa by 7 at the half. tulsa covers and looks like a team that they aren't. it works both ways. here are a few first weekers that may be looking to the next game not giving anything away.

sooners vs. n. texas
sooners play bama on the road the following week, so i'm sure they aren't practicing for n.texas

bama vs. s. florida
s.florida isn't bad and i'm sure they won't be giving the full practice schedule to s. florida, hell they play #1 ou the next week

arkansas vs. tulsa
oh shit cant bet tulsa under any circumstance, sorry, lol

boston college vs. wake forest
bc plays at penn st week after

florida vs. san joser
florida plays at miami the following week, i am sure they won't show much this game

lsu vs. laMonroe
lsu travels to arizona the following week

penn st. vs temple
penn st. plays bc next week

s.car vs. laLaffete
s.car plays virginia after

virginia vs duke
vir travels to s.car

good one here
wash st vs. idaho
wash travels to notre dame week after, how much will they show this game?

think vanilla fellas, the gob has won some $$$ on this philosophy, but hell who knows, should be some inflated lines on these games. they will use this as tune up and final decision for starters. just my opinion.

i will watch the numbers rise. i will only play these games if i feel there is value. this is just a first hand look at what i am thinking. squares haven't bet on cball in 6 months so i feel they will be throwing the bucks on the favorites without looking at things like this. on aug 30 i will be able to tell you if there is value. best of luck to you this season kman!

yep, that OU/Tulsa 2nd half line last year was one of the most correlated 2nd half side to totals that I've ever seen.

good stuff

great post

Maybe we can be friends until Oct 11, then afterwards I'll let you sing the Eyes of Texas after you practice a few times, j/k.

Best of luck to ya, and hook 'em

Gob, You make a good argument that all of us need to pay attention to. The "Look Ahead" theory needs to be part of the study

I cant remember seeing the BigXII with better teams top to bottom. 3 are in the top 5, and almost every other team can beat ANYBODY ANYWHERE. Not Baylor, of course. A&M scares the hell out of me this year, Tech is a big ?? but their new QB is a senior I believe and I hear he has a better (stronger) arm than Cliff did (I havent followed up on this, and it's hearsay from one source). It's real damn hard for one of our BigXII schools to run the gauntlet undefeated esp. with that conference championship game. Have you looked at NEB or COL much, I wonder if Jamaal has improved in his passing game?

Gob, I've got a question. You state above that a team isnt preparing for the creampuff in week 1, but is gearing practices toward a tougher week 2 opponent. I dont disagree with that at all, but I wonder if there are varying degrees of 'preparing more for a week 2 opponent' team by team. I was just thinking about college football, and I remember seeing a countdown sign at the Texas practice fields for the players to see that says "New Mexico State in x amount of days". Now I figure that the sign is more symbolic than anything else, but I imagine that each coach is a little different. Some may really focus on EACH opponent week by week more than the coaches at other schools, so as not to overlook ANYONE. Maybe someone that has been close to the scene as an assistant, trainer, etc. can share their thoughts as to how much a coach prepares for the tougher week 2 opponent before week 1. I'm thinking that a team that has been burned recently by a weak opponent in an early season game may prepare more for the easier opponent than a team that hasn't had that huge loss to a weak opponent recently. I'm sure they all prepare quite a bit for the tougher week 2 opponent, but using an extra 2 or 3 trickier plays from the book on a weak team in order to insure victory can translate into 7-14 extra points in a game for that team, and that would affect the bottom line ATS. Just some thoughts, maybe a former assistant or trainer etc. can share their opinions.

And does anyone have any background on Oasis?

I might take this into the offshore forum, but I dont have the URL.

i agree atx that the teams are going to play each game with intensity. but they are not going to play every card in their had. they will practice plays that will be used in the 2nd game and not the first. stick to the basics the first on the cream puffs. sound safe football. yes it could still get out of hand with just the basics, but how dam hard can say the sooners get up for n texas when they know they are traveling to alabama the week after? subconciously they won't. just my opinion. i have seen it first hand. even with the best of teams.
