WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama condemned those who seek to use religion as a rationale for carrying out violence around the world, declaring Thursday that "no god condones terror."

"We are summoned to push back against those who would distort our religion for their nihilistic ends," Obama said during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast. He singled out the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, calling the militants a "death cult," as well as those responsible for last month's terror attacks in Paris and deadly assault on a school in Pakistan.

President Barack Obama wants Christians to know Islam is not the only religion that has inspired violence and terror.

"Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the crusades and the inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ," Obama said Wednesday. "And in our home country, slavery, and Jim Crow, all too often was justified in the name of Christ."
Obama made the comments while giving a major speech on religion at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington. Citing Islamic, Jewish, and Christian scripture, Obama touted his own faith.

"This prayer tradition has brought us together, giving us the opportunity to come together in humility before the Almighty and to be reminded of what it is that we share as children of God. And certainly for me this is always a chance to reflect on my own faith journey," he said. "No matter the challenge He has been there for all of us. He certainly strengthened me through the power of his spirit."

Obama went on to condemn violent jihadists who are "betraying" Islam. He specifically called out the Islamic State group that has "carried out unspeakable acts of barbarism" in the Middle East and the militants who recently massacred the employees of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

"This is not unique to one group or one religion," Obama cautioned. "There is a tendency in us, a sinful tendency, that can pervert and distort our faith. And in today's world when hate groups have their own Twitter accounts and bigotry can fester in hidden places in cyberspace, it can be even harder to combat such intolerance. But God compels us to try."

[h=1]Obama FINALLY acknowledges ISIS is linked to 'Islam' – then compares it to the Crusades, the Spanish inquisition and American slavery as he says: 'No God condones terror'[/h]
  • President appeared at annual prayer event attended by 3,600 people from all 50 states and 130 countries
  • First head-on presidential attack on ISIS in terms of religion in recent memory
  • Obama has been criticized for failing to condemn Middle Eastern terrorists as religious radicals while other world leaders decry 'radical Islam'
  • He followed up aggressive language by comparing ISIS to the medieval Crusades, the Spanich Inquisition and American slavery

The burning alive of a Muslim man by the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) has jolted the president of the United States into acknowledging publicly that the world's chief terror threat comes from people who 'profess to stand up for Islam but instead betray it.'

But that stark conclusion, long missing in the White House, was followed by a litany of other wrongs done in the name of religion.

'Lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place,' Obama told the National Prayer breakfast on Thursday morning, 'remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.'

'In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.'

But 'no God condones terror,' he insisted.

PRAYER: Obama has spoken at the annual event every year since his presidency began

Early in his speech Obama hinted at the ISIS terror army by noting that 'professions of faith' have been 'used both as an instrument of great good, but also twisted and misused in the name of evil.'

Faith, he said, is often 'twisted and distorted, used as a wedge, or worse, sometimes used as a weapon.'

Then he got specific.

'From a school in Pakistan to the streets of Paris, we have seen violence and terror perpetrated by people who profess to stand up for faith – their faith – (who) profess to stand up for Islam but in fact are betraying it,' Obama said.

'You see ISIL,' he continued, referring to ISIS by his preferred alternate acronym, 'a brutal, vicious death cult that in the name of religion carried out unspeakable acts of barbarism, terrorizing religious minorities like the Yezidis, subjecting women to rape as a weapon of war, and claiming the mantle of religious authority for such actions.'

WHAT A DIFFERENCE THREE WEEKS CAN MAKE: Obama shied away from hitting ISIS as a Muslim group during a press conference with UK Prime Minister David Cameron on January 16, while Cameron leapt at the chance to castigate the group in religious terms

We have been hearing this moral equivalence from the day the Obama took office.

What is particularly despicable is to compare the current barbarism that we are seeing from ISIS with medieval Christianity and by the way the Crusades were an attempt to turn back Muslim invaders.

Lets get our history right about this.

It is so typical of the Left , what the Left does ,is whether its attacking Chris Kyle or trying to draw this moral equivalence , is making excuses for the enemy or putting the burden on the USA, that somehow it is the USA's fault , we brought it on, we ought to be behaving better , instead of turning our fire onto those that really deserve it,which are these savage enemies of humanity ISIS.

Yet...

Sudan’s foreign minister, a hardcore Islamist with a long history of orchestrating mass atrocities and other crimes against humanity, was invited to attend the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC on Thursday, February 4.

President Obama met with American Muslim leaders this afternoon, according to the White House schedule, but so far the administration is unwilling to reveal who attended the meeting, which was closed to the press.

The White House released a readout of the meeting explaining that Obama discussed “a range of domestic and foreign policy issues” including Obamacare, police fairness, anti-Muslim discrimination, and the upcoming Summit on Countering Violence Extremism.

“The President discussed the need to continue countering ISIL and other groups that commit horrific acts of violence, purportedly in the name of Islam,” the readout continued.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest defended the meeting during his daily press briefing, pointing out that it wasn’t “unusual” for the president to meet with “a wide variety of communities from across the country.”

“Sometimes that includes religious leaders; sometimes that includes leaders that are involved in academia or other specific issue areas,” he explained.

But the White House was unwilling to release the names of leaders who attended the meeting.

A request to the White House for a list of names of those who attended the meeting was not returned.

According to the readout, Obama thanked the visitors noting that “his regular interactions with different faith communities provided him with valuable insights and feedback.”

Priceless!
