A Case for Seattle: Top 10 Reasons

Ten Reasons for the Seahawks to Cover in Green Bay.

1) "Picking and Grinnning" - Green fumbles a lot, Favre throws lots of int's. This could be costly in a pressure-packed playoff game.

2) "Holding back the Years" - Coaching, Holmgren is the teacher, Sherman is the disciple. Holmgren coached in Lambeau, so this isn't alien territory for him.

3) "Inflatable Whoa-Man!" - The line is inflated. These two teams played in Lambeau earlier this year. The line was SEA -1, now its GB -7.5.... hmmm.

4) "Fakers and Shakers" - False Momentum. GB won its last 4 games by a combined score of 144 to 52. Denver rested players and laid down for them. The other 3 teams were really bad and in disarray (OAK, SD, CHI)

5) "We're not worthy" - Undeserving. GB by all rights shouldn't even be IN the playoffs. They needed an all-out collapse by Minny & a miracle TD just to qualify. SEA went on the road and earned their way here.

6) "Public Image (is) Limited" - The Public Myth, Talk to your least knowledgeable friends who bet. Everyone is loading up on the Pack for reasons like "they are a team of destiny" or "Favre's gonna win it for his dad". Not solid handicapping reasoning, to say the least.

7) "You spin me round like a...." - Record players. Look at the records of the two teams, 10-6 vs. 10-6. Based on this alone, the 7.5 points look appealing.

8) "Deja vu all over again" - 2nd time around. It's much hareder to beat a team you've already defeated. GB dominated SEA the first time, will history repeat itself?

9) "Spies like us" - Hasselback was Favre's backup. Holmgren was Favre's coach. Gee, you think they might know some of GB's plays?

10) "Cornering the market" - Both teams are banged up, but GB is especially think in the secondary. Both corners are banged up, whcih could make for some big plays for SEA's receivers.

Just some food for thought. Feel free to agree or disagree. I'm sure I could come up with some reasons for GB to win and cover too, but I feel these make for a pretty solid case for Seattle. In case you hadn't known, I'm on the 'Hawks.

I don't think Seattle will win, but 7.5 is a ton in the playoffs. Even if they don't cover Seattle is the only way to go in my mind. I think their win in SF gave them some confidence. If they can rin the ball effectively and stop the run and force Brett Favre to beat them they have a shot.

For one thing Seattle lucked their way in as well. They needed help the same as GB. It's not as if GB lost their last game and made it in. They did what they were supposed to do: They blew out inferior teams.

I agree that the team of destiny thing is overrated.

However, another idea that has been overrated for a long time is the whole idea that it is harder to beat a team 2 or 3 times in the same season. If you are clearly the better team as the Packers are, it is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Remember when the Titans beat a 14-2 J-Ville team 3 times in one season in 1999. They were in their head and clearly the better team. Same here. 10 points better.

Look closely at the road record 2-6, convincing win at ARZ, solid win when needed at SF.
Now the losses:
at GB (Playoff team)
at Cincy (Near playoff team)
at Was (only bad loss imo)
At Bal (Playoff team, was up big)
at Minny (near playoff team, came up flat)
At STL (playoff team , #1 seed)

Throw out the WAS loss, and you have pretty good competition, and one not many other teams would have a much better record against.

Mark,
respect your opinion, but provide a few facts to support the notion that GB is "clearly the better team".

OK, you've convinced me. I liked Packers but not the -7.5.

I just got Seattle 8.0/-105 at Bet365 then realised I was stupid and should have sold a half point for +100.

Green Bay gets the win and Seattle gets the cover. The extra couple points of value came in handy for the Seattle backers.
