L.A. Chargers vs Kansas City
8:20 PM EST. We’re going to bank our 4-2 Sunday in the NFL and move onto next week for several reasons. The main reason is that we’re not interested in getting involved in one of the many international cash grabs by the NFL. These games on unfamiliar turf often result in one team not showing up and getting blown out and we don’t want to get caught holding a ticket on said team. This game will be played in Mexico. At least it is a familiar time zone.
The 6-4 Chiefs were clipped by the Titans in Upset Week 10 and the loss drops them three games behind the Patriots and only one game ahead of the AFC West Raiders. Both teams have failed to meet expectations and even getting Patrick Mahomes back last week wasn't enough to stave off a loss. These teams traded road wins in 2018. The Chiefs won 38-28 at the Chargers in Week 1 and later the Chargers won 29-28 at Kansas City in Week 15.
If we were forced to bet the game, we would go contrarian and bet either the Chargers getting points or the under 52½. The over is getting hammered and we can understand why. The total is inflated so if you do bet it over, and most will, just know, you would be going over an inflated price. The same can be said if you were to bet the chalk. By game time, expect the Chiefs to be -5½ or perhaps even -6 and the total to be closer to 54.
The Chargers' two-game winning streak ended last Thursday against the Raiders but like every other loss, it was by a touchdown or less. Dropping to 4-6 makes the season already over but at least Melvin Gordon is getting back to form so he can leave in the offseason. The rise of Gordon over the last few weeks mirrors a decline in Philip Rivers. Rivers was was held to only 201 yards and a score in Chicago, then 294 yards with no scores against the visiting Packers. Last week in Oakland, he passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns but also threw threw interceptions, lost a fumble and was even sacked five times. The Chargers have been one of the most erratic teams in the NFL for years. They win when not expected to and lose in bizarre fashion when expected to. When you combine the Bolts unpredictability with this game being played in Mexico, it makes for an easy pass but if you must, the value is on both the under and the underdog. NO BETS!
