I would suspect that there will be fewer and fewer reduced juice joints for bases next year - or a the very least with greatly reduced limits.

I agree Joey...

Many bookmakers got killed, especially the past few weeks, with gamblers betting on chalks!

FWIW,

it is generally regarded, and has been for a long time, that a dime line that breaks at -150 is a break even proposition for garden variety bookmaker.

takes talent to offer that or less and earn, and some of the guys that do are extremely talented, however many are not.

7 cent baseball with a bonus program is really bad. I know of one book that had a 20-cent line last season, but stupidly gave players that asked 10-cent line, but without similarly reducing the bonus program. The 10-cent players kicked ass.

Most bonus programs are based upon a 20-cent line, and many of them are already dangerously generous. Sweetening it with 10 or 7 cent lines is like giving away the store. Books with enough parlay/teaser and other high hold % business can survive, but low vig takes a BIG chunk out of the bottom line.

In the old days we wouldn't deal baseball with 20 cent lines, LOL. Too much like work to grind it out. Dime lines were out of the question. Now that some are booking at -107 is incredible, thats all I can say. Of course people didn't have on-line casino's and post up money to help absorb some of the expenses either.

As a player though I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it.

Patrick:

What I'm saying is that next year, I think you'll find a lot fewer stores around dealing a dime or less line around - especially with any kind of a limit or bonus associated with it.

Booking a dime line up to -160 seems like the reasonable cut-off point to this observer. That is where I would draw the line if I were a bookmaker at present. Anything less is to unplayer friendly in my estimation. Believe the astute player could not give me much disrespect for going to a 15 cent line on anything above -160.
