I would have to agree with it.

A very high % have alot to pay for once they hit the jackpot.

1. Bankroll and entourage
2. Buy mama a new house, car, maid service + whatever else she wants
3. Bankroll the entourage
4. Buy alot jewelry they don't need
5. Spend money like its never gonna run out. (ie. Playing the part of a millionaire)
6. Bankroll the entourage.

etc ...

Not really suprising when you consider the fact that someone like Mike Tyson who blew through something in the neighborhood of $350 million is now broke. Some of those NBA guys earn nowhere near that kind of money. I mean look at one of my favorite players of all time, Charles Barkley. The guy is not broke, but when he talks about losing 6 figures in a casino and shrugs it off like it is nothing, something is wrong. A lot of these guys live way beyond their means. That figure is probably pretty close to accurate.

I understand how these guys go broke. You are expected to provide for sooooooooooo many people with the money they make. I know Lavar Arrington fairly well and see the amount of people that he provides for. Now Lavar is fairly smart, he has used his money to set up businesses for his family and lets family members run them, so he makes money off them. Just a quick run down of the people he supports off his money.

Wife
Mom/Dad
Uncle/Aunt
Older Brother
Younger Brother (fully supports him)
Friend
Friend
Friend
Mother-in-law/Father-in-law

Thats 12 people, and Lavar does not even have an entourage. So you can see how easy it is to blow all your money when you support people with nice cars, homes, vacations, and cash.

there is no reason to even think 60% of the 10 day contract people (very few of these anyway) would be broke after a few years. Most of these guys have college educations and can also work in other leagues for 6 figure salaries pretty easily. The 60% number is bogus and they pretty much say as much in the article
college education's? in what, how many chicks they can get preg and dump? Would you hire half these idiots? Can you prove that it is NOT 60 %? Ever heard some of these guy's try to speak english? college educations my ass, their tutor's do all their work. It could not have been easier for most of them to get one. You must still be very depressed about rich leaving.....

I agree with Bet here.

Yeah I'm a racist if I point out how a large % of the NBA is black. A large % of these players have multiple kids in different cities. Just shows sometimes it doesn't matter what good fortune these guys get. They still do what they do and end up broke dumbfucks.

I guess it would depend on their definition of broke. Begging in the streets is broke for some

I heard a stat earlier on radio yesturday that said 71% of NBA is African American. This is going off memory from what I heard today.

60% that sounded low at first...
I would expect 75%...
but if only 70% of the NBA is black than its likely 75% of that 70% go broke.

Funny as I read this the person that comes to mind for me is an NHL player named Derek Sanderson. A colorful exciting player who won the calder trophy as rookie of the year, got the big salary etc and blew all his money on whores drugs and liqour. I seen him in an interview after he had started his broadcasting career and he said I knew I had hit rock bottom when I woke up on a park bench and tried to steal a bottle of wine off a sleeping wino.

I think that 60% figure is a little high but it wouldn't surprise me if it was right and it seems easy to critize these young men but I'm not sure I would have been any less stupid when I was 20 although I would like to think I wouldn't hsve been, who knows.

Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Cedric Ceballos was arrested in Blythe on a warrant for allegedly driving on a suspended license, authorities said today.

Ceballos was arrested yesterday on a Los Angeles County warrant, after a employee at a Chevron station at 321 S. Lovekin Blvd. told police he presented an invalid credit card for gasoline, authorities said.

Ceballos, 38, was arrested by Blythe police, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez. Ceballos was booked into a Riverside County jail facility and released in lieu of about $26,000 bail, Gutierrez said.

A computer check found there was a warrant for Ceballos' arrest, a Blythe police spokeswoman said.

Ceballos played for five NBA teams from 1990-2001, including the Lakers from 1994-97. Ceballos is now a disc jockey with KAJM-FM (104.3), a Phoenix- area urban oldies station, and the master of ceremonies at Phoenix Suns games at U.S. Airways Center.
