I have very few personal rules or policies but some of them that were hammered into me by people I grew up around include (in no particular order and I am sure there are others):
- i wont drink alcohol through a straw
- shoes should always match belt, socks should match pants, never tuck a shirt in without a belt
- never watch a buddy get beat/jumped
Since then I have added an important one to the list:
- no 6/5 blackjack
It makes me very sad that 6/5 has spread to downtown. No one should play this game. That is the only way that it will stop spreading....

6:5 blackjack. Oh, 6:5 blackjack.
Why we hate 6:5 blackjack
Let’s keep it simple. When a casino pays 6:5 on blackjack instead of the traditional 3:2, you get paid less money when you get a natural blackjack. The difference is getting paid $12 for a $10 wager on a 6:5 game vs. getting paid $15 for a $10 wager on a 3:2 game. Depending on other rules of the game, this can push the house edge from about 0.43% to 1.88%. That’s a huge shift in odds. You can play with this blackjack calculator to see the house edge in any blackjack game.
6:5 blackjack on the Vegas Strip
Our pal @JohnMehaffey (he's a great follow on Twitter) has confirmed rumblings we've heard thatMGM Grand has switched 25 blackjack tables from 3:2 to 6:5. Even some of their video blackjack machines (like this) pay 6:5 when you’re dealt blackjack. MGM Grand had some of the better blackjack games available on the Vegas Strip until this change.
He also reports that recent visits to Paris and Bally’s show no 6:5 games. Last year, we told you about a sweet 3:2 game at Bally’s and it looks as though they’re continuing the idea of good blackjack.
6:5 Blackjack in Downtown Vegas
Downtown Vegas is often where gamblers go for the best odds in Las Vegas. That may not be the case for much longer. Four Queens and Binion’s have been dealing up 6:5 blackjack for a while now. Binion’s turned that tide for a couple of days with the short-lived Throwback Blackjack promotion, but they’re back to normal again. Now, Downtown Grand is getting into the 6:5 game.

Let's welcome Downtown Grand into the Blackjack Wall of Shame. Double deck now pays 6-5 with $15 min. Couple of shoe tables have 6-5 felts.
5:21 PM - 9 Mar 2015
</center>6:5 blackjack isn’t the normal payout for blackjack in Downtown Vegas, but that could change in the future. Resort fees weren’t the normal occurrence in Downtown Vegas hotels just a couple years ago, either. You might want to begin checking the placards to see what blackjack pays before sitting down at the blackjack table no matter where you’re playing.
