I thought I would let everyone know of something that just happened with this sportsbook. Last night I made these 4 wagers on a soccer game played on 1/6/04. Aston Villa was the winner 2-1. I've never wagered on soccer before, but there was a post in the Rx soccer forum recommending this game so I took a chance. There were no bonuses involved.

I made 2 $75 bets on Aston Villa -1/2. Just incase the poster at the soccer forum was wrong, I hedged the bet a little and placed a $40 bet on the underdog to win and a small $20 parlay on the draw plus the carolina panthers football game coming up. If the soccer match was a draw, I still needed the panthers to cover by 6 1/2 pts, otherwise I would have lost the entire $210 wagered. Upon checking the results today, I was told that the soccer match was a "no play". I spoke with Ramel in customer service who told me that the line was bad and that it was my fault for playing it. I could'nt believe what I had just heard. Incidentally, I have used this sportsbook before and they seemed reputable. I was then told that the Sr. Manager named Tony would call me at home to talk to me. He called on his cell phone and was extremely loud and rude. He said that "I obviously knew the line was bad and must have sat with a calculator for hours figuring out how to hedge this bet". After explaining that I don't follow soccer, but took someone elses recommendation he told me that I should be banned from Internet sports wagering. I wonder what he would have said if the match ended in a draw and the only hope was the Carolina game. His behavior on the phone was extremely unprofessional and abrasive. After speaking with him, I called the Five Dimes customer service and had my funds immediately withdrawn and account closed. The bottom line was that my winnings would have been $60. Unbelievable to have a customer terminate relationship and prospect of any future wagering with this unethical sportbook.

Thanks for sharing.

I know of many around here at the RX that play at 5 Dimes and speak highly of them.

Will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

Sorry for your unfortunate happening.

All sounds like a big misunderstanding.

Looking at the line it looks to me like the bad line was
Aston Villa -1/2 +136. No way should that have been the line, -1/2 -136 sounds more reasonable.
I don't know the entire circumstances surrounding whether you were taking a shot, who you are, or your tone with the manager. But just wanted to add that it was a bad line.

Line was supposed to be:
PORTSMOUTH (PREMIER) +½ +136
ASTON VILLA (PREMIER) -½ -156

Line was listed as:
PORTSMOUTH (PREMIER) +½ -156
ASTON VILLA (PREMIER) -½ +136

Not only did the customer bet the bad line, but hedged the bet on the bad line with the other team and the draw option to guarantee vitually guarantee no loss. All wagers were voided at the same time due to the other wagers being based on the wagers on the erroneous line. Below is other relevent information.

If the above post is correct, not only was it a bad line, but the bets were voided WELL BEFORE the game started. So in this case, 5dimes is absolutely correct. As for the customer service and the manager getting irate, my guess is the bettor took that tone and was wrong.

I have heard nothing but good about 5dimes and plan to post up with them this week because of their wide variety of betting options and their reputation.

Sounds to me like the poster was trying to get something over on them, and is mad when he got caught.

I think the biggest legitimate gripe you have is the rude tone of the manager (assuming it was unprovoked) because the line was obviously wrong. If I see a line like that I stay far away, knowing that they can wait until the game finishes and cancel it if it's in their interest otherwise let it stand.

Could be just a coincidence but less than 1 out of 1000 people are ever rude to me, even when they are stealing my money.

Funny, if you had just called them up and told them of the bad line, they probably would have given you some money for your honesty like I did. Instead you took a shot and got caught.

I agree Darryl about the rudeness, but I have a feeling the customer provoked it. Hopefully, 5dimes can respond to this as well. Their first reply was very professional and removed all doubt in my opinion.

Obviously a bad line from looking at the home win, away win and draw odds.

I'm inclined to believe that joyceflorida was either unaware of the bad line or incredibly stupid to hedge a bad line at the same book!

A good book where I plan to post up again come baseball, now that they have improved their web pages.

That was clearly a bad line as Aston Villa who's known as a pretty good all around team was playing an opponent that had not scored a goal on the road in 4 months!.

When I saw the line about twenty minutes before the match it had already been corrected.

Anyway, I've dealt with 5Dimes customer service countless times for both wagering and disputes and they've always been beyond professional, always a pleasure to deal with.

That's been my experience anyway.

I bet into a bad line at 5Dimes once; gave them a call afterwards to let them know and give them a chance at cancelling the bet. They fixed the number but let me keep the bet. Great book in my opinion.

RAILBIRD I AM PLAYING THERE AS WE SPEAK I AM HOLDING MY OWN.THE ONLY NEGATIVE THING I CAN SAY IS IT TAKES FOREVER FOR THEM TO GRADE BETS ONLINE AT LEAST 20 TO 25 MINUTES THIS IS MY ONLY COMPLAINT OTHER THAN THAT I LOVE ALL THE OPTIONS.

As I stated earlier, I do not bet on soccer games and generally just wager on football, basketball and tennis. I'm really not familiar with the soccer teams either, but it's my choice if I want to gamble that way. In this situation, I didn't know whether a line was good or bad. Incidentally, since the wager was placed very late I went to sleep. I saw this email tonight:

There was no subject line and it was sent from "Info". Very poor example of how they correspond with their customers. Not surprising that it was from Tony, the Sr. Manager.

I myself have been in business a very long time and know that customer service and professional management is very important to success. How this situation was handled from beginning to end is just not acceptable. You would expect an owner/Sr. Manager to be tactful and resolve something appropriately particulary when the customer is not trying to cheat anybody.

I have read some good things about Hollywoodsportsbook so I called them and made a deposit. I asked them if they posted a bad line and the customer placed a wager, how would they handle it. The reply was that they would honor the wager. I'm sure there are players out there that would take advantage of this situation, but I can assure you, that was not my intent.

Haha! Good luck finding tennis lines at Hollywood.
