It happened 6 months after it was issued meaning one of three things happened to the check (i) it sat around uncashed for a while; (ii) it was in route for a long time; or (iii) it took an inordinately long time to clear. The letter from the bank said "Account Closed", that sounds self explanatory to me. 5D probably closed the account (switched banks?) out of which the check was written without realizing there were uncashed checks.
Doesn't sound like anything shady or strange to me.

5D may not be good for some, esp. large players. They aren't the place to bet 10k on a baseball total, but few need that.

Agreed, Doug the biggest reason that these A books are so solid is because they sure know how to run things. It seems that the ones that don't pay are the ones that give the craziest bonuses. I use to be a bonus whore, but now rather play with the A list books, so I can sleep better an night.

There was no issue brought to 5Dimes attention until May 28th.
The client had no details (check number, issuing company, tracking number) regarding his check.

It took the client until June 3 (six days later) to provide us this information. Immediate threats of posting in forums are made unless the funds are made available in his account and an immediate money transfer be made to him. No funds are posted or sent.
The customer is informed a trace takes time. An answer from the check the processor is expected on Friday June 5 (two days later).

Less than 48 hours after presenting us with the details of the check, the check processor has released the funds back to 5Dimes. The funds are in the client’s account.
It wasn't brought to your attention until I woke up one morning to find $1000 missing from my bank account.
I called immediately to see what information you needed from me. I sent that information as soon as the bank got it to me.
Bottom line, you have know that the check that was sent to me on October 30 and cashed on November 5 was allegedly bad, I guess I was surprised you did not at least start looking into it until I got the actual information from my bank.
My request for an immediate transfer obviously assumed that it would not take 3 days to research....I appreciate the money being placed in my account.
I'm amazed you got it back in 48 hours, I work for a large company in the AP department and check tracing is a total bitch, sometimes takes shit 2 weeks to get back to me. It's unreal.
Not trying to be a dick, but what did you want them to do before you gave them the info? Very unlikely that they could've began to trace the check before this information was received.
Why would they immediately transfer the money to you without tracing the check just because you notified them of the problem? This stuff takes time and 48 hours is very good turn around time. Sorry for your problem, but you should be a little more patient with this sort of thing.
don't a lot of the books use check processors to cut and send checks? and don't these processors open and close bank accounts on a regular basis?
seems to me I was reading about other "checks" from other books "bouncing" because the account was closed.
btw these things that people are calling checks are not checks, they are drafts, and could take a few months before your bank can clear them, although your bank may give you credit asap.
