Anyone have any news on who is going to be their QB this year? As a 49ers fan it is frustrating watching Hill and knowing they should try to get someone else because Hill can't make any throws he needs to! I think Smith should get a shot because he can make throws at least, but why don't they just go and get someone?? Anyways, any thoughts or knowledge whould be good!

All reports out of OTAs and camp so far is that Alex Smith is by far winning the battle and looks like a new man and is playing better than he ever has. We shall see...i will be at every game

Hill can't make the throws he needs to? have you seen Alex Smith play? his game log here. at least with Hill, he's 7-3 when he started for the 49ers and he plays better in the pocket too. only had one lopsided loss which was to Dallas last season.

the only thing i dislike about Alex Smith is that he's predictable. for example, when he see's a target he wants to throw to, he zooms in on that particular player, thinks for about 3 seconds, wobbles his arm back and forth, and throws it.

It's hard to say who will start, but one thing is for sure. This is the Achilles Heel of the 49er team. Neither one of these guys would be starting on most teams. It appears that Singletary is going to to try and play Chicago Bear style football, focusing his attention on the running game and defense.

I'm not impressed with Hill but what do I know. Smith hasn't exactly worked out but he's the #1 pick, he's paid the money, and he still has the higher ceiling IMO.

Whether or not he works out, I'd rather start him. If he fails so be it. It happens sometimes. I doubt Shaun Hill would ever even be an average starting QB in the NFL from what I saw, you might as well give Alex more of a chance.

Ya alex smith looks good during OTAs...wow sign him to an extension NOW. Who doesn't look good during OTAs? Besides j.russell on raiders heh. Smith has always looked decent in shorts and without a passrush in his face. But as soon as the pressure is there and he needs to make quick throws he's crapping his pants.

If Hill doesn't start game 1 I'm DONE being a 49er fan.

Who gives a shit if he wasn't the number 1 pick. He isn't flashy...doesnt look good...ya he doesnt have a big arm either.

who cares about all that if the guy is winning? all he's done is win games when thrown into the fire behind crappy o-lines and below average WRs. BUT both group look to be improved this season so lets see how he does.

Hill wins football games and no one can argue that. He deserves to start the season and if he plays poorly then give Alex Smith a chance. Team's shouldn't be forced to play a #1 pick...just play the better QB and at this point thats HILL.

The NFL is a QB league... If you are going to commit to an average at the very best quarterback, then you will have to have a super stacked roster everywhere else just to be a contending team.

SEE MINNESOTA VIKINGS.

If you have a good QB, he can make up for lots of holes/lack of talent with the rest of the roster. Drew Brees was the exception and the guy had no RB, one 7th round WR who was also hurt, and one of the worst defenses in the NFL and the Saints still didn't finish as bad as other teams...

First of all NOBODY is guaranteed a starting spot in this league based on past performance. May the best man win. If it is Hill then we have a good idea what we are getting, if it is Smith then we have yo believe that he is dramatically better than what we have seen so far. Either way you have to trust coah Sing to make that choice. If u wanna quiy being a fan of the team then your a little bitch!

Secondly this Offense will be nothing like the Bears. At worst i see a more of a Steelers playbook. Close to 50/50 run/pass and a lot of trick plays mixed in. I guarantee a lot more creativity than what anyone expects. Coach Sing has said over and over that we will not be a running team, only that in 4th qtr when we need to kill clock and everyone knows were gonna run that we can still run it down your throat no matter what u do u cant stop it and that will take your will away.

No matter who QB's Mike Sing will have these guys ready to compete and this will be the best Niners team we since the 90's.

Offense brings crowds - Defense brings Championships or at least a meaningful game in San Fran in December!
