Bettor has $400 to win $800K riding on FAU to win title

LV Review Journal Subscription

Florida Atlantic lost its second game of the season at Mississippi before reeling off 20 straight wins.

During that streak, in December, a Caesars Sportsbook bettor in Illinois wagered a total of $400 to win $800,000 on the Owls to win the national championship.

The gambler placed three $100 bets at 2,500-1 odds and one $100 bet at 500-1.

Florida Atlantic, 35-3 and riding an 11-game win streak, upset Kansas State on Saturday to advance to the Final Four and is two victories from winning the national title.

The ninth-seeded Owls are 2-point underdogs to fifth-seeded San Diego State in Saturday’s national semifinal

“They put up a huge win total in the regular season. We had some long odds on them, and they’re being rewarded for their faith,” Caesars assistant director of trading Adam Pullen said. “They’re sitting on some big tickets and are in a good position to guarantee themselves a profit.”

So just for fun, some of you tell us EXACTLY how you would hedge this

Be specific in your answer using actual available odds from US bookies that you could get down on.

I'd throw some down on the ML with SD St assuming I didn't have a future wager on them ( I do at 70 and 85/1 ) Probably hope for a live line where you could middle the bet with SD St.. You could get creative with a teaser and get +3 Uconn pk or so..

$130k to win $100k on SD St. SD St wins and you walk away with $100k. If not
$500k to win $200k (assuming line will be -250) on UConn. UConn wins and you're up $70k. Fla At wins and you're up $170k.

Odds get a lot better if UConn loses to Mia. Give me his bankroll to come up with different scenarios if he doesn't have $630k.

I'd be curious if he is holding other positions with this event.. That makes a difference in how you go forward.

Best odds I see on FAU is +600

Maybe he can give someone +700 and sell of a portion of the ticket.........
If some big gambler takes him up on it he would get about 114k for the whole thing

If he made the bet at one of the USA sports books they all offer a buyout .
Most of the time it’s a terrible offer but that would be one way to extract money if he was broke

Guessing the book would offer $100k cash out.

I would take that and throw 10% back down and walk away ahead . Easy to say you would be kicking yourself but never go broke turning a profit. If money is not your thing then let it ride and hope you blast enough endorphins.

Agree

FAU would have a shot against Miami, but not UConn

Too bad for the guy Miami/UConn isn't first game up

Creighton and Florida Atlantic maybe even better next year. Each only lose 1 contributor.

Meanwhile, everyone on San Diego State is 25.

I like Raiders 72s numbers to hedge.Problem is if FA wins, you just lost 130K, you better have the 400K or 500 K in place you are going to use in final game.Would the sportsbook who wrote the tickets give someone some casino credit on a bunch of playback.??Limits their exposure some.

Hedging is always a good idea.I think SD st. wins as they have the best perimeter D in the country and FA takes and makes 3s.SD st doesn t switch as much as a lot of teams and stay with their matchups fighting thru screens.GL with whatever you do.

I think Heritage offers a buyback to hedge?
