it means after the pitcher threw the ball toward home plate , the guy holding the bat hit the ball in fair territory and nobody caught it. and that guy has done this 3000 times.

Means he's a good hitter and stayed relatively healthy most his career. The question is what does 4000+ hits mean? Just unreal. The guy had to average over 200+ hits a season and play at least 20 years.

BIGGIO already in top 26 as he passed Roberto and could easily be in top 20 all-time by end of the season, even more impressive.
