Reds to start All-Star Abbott on Opening Day against Red Sox.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Cincinnati Reds will start left-hander Andrew Abbott on the mound for their season opener at home against the Boston Red Sox on March 26.
It's the first Opening Day start for Abbott, 26, who was selected as an All-Star for the first time last year in his third season with the Reds.
Abbott was 10-7 with a 2.87 ERA in 166⅓ innings over 29 starts last year after beginning the season on the injured list while still recovering from a left shoulder injury that cut short his 2024 season. He emerged as a front-line starter for the Reds.
"It's awesome," Abbott said of being tabbed to start Opening Day by manager Terry Francona. "I don't take anything for granted. I'm honored to represent Cincinnati on that day. I know being there and seeing how big of a holiday and how big it's celebrated, it's great. Having the chance with all the teammates, all the talent we have on this team means a lot to me, too.
"Any one of those guys deserve it, but I'm excited to take the ball and give it my all."
Ace right-hander Hunter Greene, the Reds' Opening Day starter last year, has stiffness in his pitching elbow and currently isn't throwing.
Abbott was a second-round draft pick of the Reds out of the University of Virginia in 2021 and made his major league debut two years later. He's 28-23 with a 3.42 ERA and 383 strikeouts, 139 walks and a 1.243 WHIP in 75 games, all starts, for Cincinnati.

Falling behind 11-0 Say what?? I can see in November/December but..... Look in mirror Mark sounds to me like this all starts with Leadership aka Coach

Mark Pope says fatigue cost Kentucky big in loss to Florida...

  • Game Challenges: Kentucky fell behind early with Florida starting 11-0, forcing the Wildcats into a constant catch-up mode. Big runs by Florida created an 18-point deficit in the first half.
  • Coach Insights: Mark Pope cited fatigue and poor decision-making as key issues, highlighting struggles in transition defense, rebounding, and maintaining offensive pace.
  • Season Concerns: Kentucky's recurring problems include early deficits, turnovers, and lack of urgency, which need fixing before postseason play.

1 of top 7 disappointing college teams!

Kentucky Wildcats

Kentucky reportedly spent $22 million on its roster this season, and expected to be in the national championship picture coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in Mark Pope’s first year as head coach. The Wildcats were hoping Arizona State transfer Jayden Quaintance could still be their best player coming off a torn ACL, but it was clear he didn’t look like the same dominant defensive presence in his short-lived return before being shutdown again. Losing point guard Jaland Lowe for the year to shoulder surgery hurt the team’s halfcourt creation and left them without a real table-setter. It looked like this thing could fall off the rails at certain points of this season, but credit Pope for salvaging enough wins to still make the tournament. It’s just that this offense doesn’t really do anything particularly well, and the defense isn’t dominant enough to keep them in games when the shots aren’t going in. Given the amount they spent on the roster, just making the tournament isn’t anywhere close to good enough for Kentucky.

Fingers crossed get Williams back for March Madness

2nd season starts March 19th/20th…. Pope might want to try sitting himself on the bench ?….… ?
JJ needs more PT I would be playing to win with next year in mind.….

Reds' Hunter Greene to have surgery, expected out until July.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene, who was expected to be the team's ace this season, will have an arthroscopic procedure Wednesday to remove bone chips and loose bodies from his right elbow and is not expected to return until July.
Greene, 26, left the Reds' spring training camp in Arizona on Wednesday due to elbow stiffness, returned to Cincinnati and underwent imaging in addition to consulting specialists, including Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
"We will miss him. There is no getting around that," manager Terry Francona said Tuesday. "... I don't see anyone looking like they're feeling sorry for themselves. This is just the way the game is [for pitchers]."
