Five-time Cy Young Award winner Randy Johnson has scheduled a conference call today at 4 p.m. "to discuss his baseball future," according to a news release sent this afternoon by his agent.
Johnson, 46, could announce his retirement. He currently is an unsigned free agent.
Johnson, an almost certain Hall of Famer, is a
10-time All-Star. He ranks second to Nolan Ryan on the
all-time strikeout list. He pitched in one World Series in his 22-year career, winning three games in the Arizona Diamondbacks'
2001 victory over the New York Yankees. Johnson won Game 6 as a starter and Game 7 as a reliever.
The Montreal Expos selected Johnson from USC in the second round of
the 1985 draft, three picks after the Chicago White Sox selected Jose Mota, the Cal State Fullerton infielder turned Angels broadcaster.
