its amazing to me you take two weeks of baseball and conclude the Rays have the best roster in the league.

Lets just crown Sea, NYM, and Padres now.

There's one HUGE issue with Smart baseball or Money ball, it doesn't win.

Go by all the numbers you want, we'll see who's there in September.

You should ignore their 98-64 record and best ERA in MLB since last May and put your futures wagers on BOS

"Smart Baseball & analytics doesn't win!!"

lol

The Boston Red Sox were on forefront of Smart Baseball when they hired Bill James prior to 2003 season. They have won four World Series since.

The Cubs, led by Theo and Joe Maddon, took same tack starting in 2015 and won a World Series.

The Houston Astros went mostly full-on Smart Baseball in 2014 and won a World Series.

The Kansas City Royals adopted Smart Baseball analytics beginning in about 2011 and went to two World Series, winning one.

But go ahead and put your money on teams with the biggest Free agent $$$ spending.....

Would concur that *moneyball* alone is insufficient.

It must be combined w funding and supporting a very strong MiL system.

And by almost any credible measure, the Rays since 2015 have constructed one of top three MiL systems in all of pro baseball.

They are also demonstrating how a strong winning team can be assembled with almost zero players aged over 30 (They currently have three of their 40 man roster aged 30+)

They have an excellent chance at this and the division too. Yankees have so many injuries it's ridiculous, the newest one being Gary Sanchez, terrible season last year, but so much potential, you can accept all the passed balls if he hits like he can.he hits 3 homeruns Sunday, looks like he he has gotten back to form, now goes on the DL for 10 days, call up the AAA guy to be the backup catcher and the backup guy who isn't that great is the starter, if they were to lose Judge for the season, they might not win 80 games ! Bosox in bad shape too, neither touches 100 wins, probably only 1 of them even makes the playoffs even as WC

Rays winning the division and maybe 98 games or so is likely, the pathway to first place is wide open.

Kansas City Royals???

Every single team you mention there had HIGH PRICED FA's, something the TB Rays do not have because they don't spend money because their fans don't support the team.

So go ahead and CHANGE the argument from a TB Ray and Oakland A's moneyball AKA Smart Baseball situation to those world series winners.

Those teams had home grown talent, like the Rays, but they completed those teams with BIG money FA's.

I've bet the Red Sox twice this year, splitting those games. I've bet the Rays a lot more and obviously having success with them.

I don't bet futures, maybe a series future in the playoffs, but never a season long future. I don't tie up money all season like that.

The Red Sox and Yankees suck so far this year, and the Rays are awesome. But lets see what happens in September.

Should we ignore your 14-25 record this season? Crazy how bad you fudged your record and no one noticed.

You posted plays on 9 days here at the Rx and had one winning day.

Yes, if the topic is "Tampa Bay Rays Over/Under 84.5 Wins", it would seem logical to ignore my personal predictions of individual MLB games in early April.

If you want my HSO on individual games that happens on twitter where I am currently minus 3.5 units for the season.

Don't forget the 2011-14 St Louis Cardinals....they went high analytics and made Final Four all four seasons with yes, another WS win.

Meanwhile, how much have you wagered so far on RedSox to win AL East? I'd love to see you make a bundle

Well done!

3 games that were all tied late-

win #15 for the first place RAYS

comgrats to Emilio

Closing out the game in the ninth inning, Emilio Pagan threw a perfect inning while recording his first career save in the Majors.

19-9

Michael Perez and Kevin Kiermaier also drove in runs for the Rays (19-9), who have won five of six to build upon the best record in baseball. They also moved to 10-2 on the road.

Tyler Glasnow of @RaysBaseball is the second AL pitcher to have 6+ wins, no losses, a sub-1.50 ERA and 45+ strikeouts over his first 7 starts of a season since ERA became an official stat in 1913. The other was Boston's Roger Clemens in 1991. #RaysUp

They sure look like they will win the division, at this point !

Right now I see it as Tampa winning , Oreos last for sure, and not too much separating Yanks, Bosox, and Jay's. Toronto likely 4th, a real toss-up for 2nd and 3rd, between NY and Boston, no guarantee that 2nd in the East even gets a WC spot. Yanks are just too injured this year and Boston playing better, so I'll say

Complete games are a thing of the past with 13 man pitching staffs now the norm and teams not only using closers but also set-up guys, and now openers.

How many complete games in MLB so far this season ?

As a guess I'll throw out

5 ?
