:aktion033 Now that the Derby is behind us , let's start the chatter for the second leg of the Triple Crown................

Looks like Nyquist is going to be tough to beat.............................is it possible that we may have back to back Triple Crown Champions.............

Just starting to browse the PP's of these horses..........................trying to find that one special challenger who may be able to................

Sad to say only Nyquist can beat himself, Exaggerator has lost to him 4 times now. The rest of the 3-YOs are bums... Suddenbreakingnews will be waiting for him at the Belmont. That's all that stands between him and the Triple Crown. Unless of course an injury occurs.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the rest of 3 year olds are bums, but I don't see anyone giving Nyquist much of a challenge here. Hopefully, we can find some long shots to fill out the exotics. Last year, we had 30-1 place finisher in Tale of Verve and 12-1 show finisher Divining Rod so big payouts are still possible. $1 exacta paid $62, $1 tri paid nearly $500 and $1 super paid over $1900. Pretty nice payouts with a 4-5 winner. I'm hoping Exaggerator has had enough of Nyquist and falls out of the money. That's probably the only way we get some decent payouts.

Yep going to be tough.........................but if something strange happens , who knows.........................good point about last year with the large favorite winning but with some nice pays.................and you might be correct with Exaggerator finally having an empty tank.................

Here is an interesting point........I believe that Nyquist had 'nasal strips' for the Derby......................and I believe that the Belmont might disallow the equipment again..................maybe / maybe not..........

Nyquist will basically be unbeatable in this race being it is a shorter distance, and the Derby proved he has a lot of gas left. If he is at 4/5 odds, you are getting less than even money but...- For example, $50-$40, $500 to win $400, etc. Why not? No thought required.

Additionally, if Exaggerator goes off at 5-1, $100 to win $500 doesn't sound too bad either. I believe he will be chasing Nyquist the whole way. Gunrunner should be up there too along with Stradivari.

The others seem to lack talent as compared to the consistency of the derby runners.

Overall, I believe the trifectas and superfectas won't be anything to write home about with regards to payouts. Therefore, for this race, it is going to take money, to make money.

Abiding Star, the winner of five straight races, will ship to Pimlico Race Course the morning of May 19. J.D. Acosta has the mount in the May 21 Preakness.

DAZZLING GEM – Trainer Brad Cox said Tuesday morning, 5/17/2016, that Dazzling Gem would be entered Wednesday in Saturday’s $100,000 Sir Barton and not the Preakness.


“The mile and a sixteenth is better for him,” Cox said for opting for the Sir Barton over the 1 3/16-mile Preakness, “and the competition.”

UNCLE LINO – Veteran trainer Gary Sherlock, 70, said he is taking his first start in a Triple Crown race with Uncle Lino in stride and maintains he is not getting excited.

“I’m just going to go and have fun,” he said. “I’ve been in too many wars.”

In 2014, Sherlock purchased the yearling colt from the first-crop sire Uncle Mo for $52,000 with longtime friend and partner Tom Mansor. They subsequently sold a third to fellow Californian Jim Galvin, who operates as Purple Shamrock Racing. Twenty-one months later, their 3-year-old named for Mansor’s favorite uncle is a stakes winner, has a 2-2-2 record from seven starts and is ready to run in the Preakness. He was shipped from California to Baltimore on Tuesday. Mansor will attend the Preakness, but Galvin is staying home.

Uncle Lino will be Sherlock’s first starter in Maryland. He said he did not need a scouting report for his jockey Fernando Hernandez Perez on the second-oldest track in the country.

“I know how it plays,” he said. “It’s a speed-biased track more than anything. I watch them run. I’m hoping that Fernando gets to ride his race. I told him to turn left, turn left, turn left.”

CHERRY WINE – With a break from the rain that had drenched Churchill Downs Tuesday morning, Cherry Wine was on the track at 9:25 to gallop 1 ½ miles over a track labeled “sloppy” by the clockers.

Owned by William Pacella, Frank Jones Jr. and Frank Shoop, Cherry Wine is trained by Dale Romans, who will be seeking a second Preakness victory Saturday.

Five years ago, Romans brought Shackleford to Pimlico with a record similar to that of Cherry Wine. Making the trip with Shackleford was exercise rider Faustino Aguilar, who will be performing the same duties with Cherry Wine starting Thursday at Pimlico.

“Shackleford and Cherry Wine are a lot alike as they are easy to gallop,” Aguilar said. “Shackleford, he was a special horse.”

Before his Preakness victory, Shackleford had won two races and been graded-stakes placed. Shackleford completed his career by adding two more Grade 1 victories and posting earnings of more than $3 million.

Cherry Wine has won two races and finished third in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) in his most recent start.

“Cherry Wine has a good chance to be a special horse, too,” Aguilar said, adding with a nod to the saturated track. “He loves the slop.”

Cherry Wine broke his maiden in his fifth start on a sloppy track by nine lengths in November at Churchill Downs.

Romans is scheduled to arrive in Baltimore tonight with Cherry Wine shipping in Wednesday after training in the morning at Churchill Downs.

1. Cherry Wine - late closer, who should get a fast pace and will be passing many tired horses


2. Uncle Lino - may hang around to hit the board, but I won’t bet on it


3. Nyquist - nothing needs to be said................win contender, ..............of course


4. Awesome Speed - up front to begin with and at back to end


5. Exagerrator - will have a great shot on an off track, but Nyquist has his number


6. Lani - will the horse from the far east do well, I think he will


7. Collected - has been working well


8. Laoban - should be likely pace setter, and then should fade to the back of the pack in the end


9. Abiding Star - don’t like the virus thing and quarantine


10. Fellowship - think he may be a tired horse with not much left in his tank


11. Stradavari - the ‘new shooter’ who I think has a great chance to hit the board, but will he take the wire
