I'd like to keep the thread relative to the football contests and information surrounding those contests. If you want to bash for whatever reason, please start another thread.

I thought this post could be helpful regarding the 2014 Las Vegas Hotel Football Supercontest. It is known here as the World Series of Poker for FOOTBALL Handicappers with $500,000 + going to the winner last year and a prize pool close to $1.5 Million Dollars paying down to 30th place. 100% of entry fees are returned to the players. The only requirement is that you be 21 years of age or older. The signup fee is the same as last year $1500. There's is an early bird sign up which includes a $15,000 mini-contest held the last 3 weeks of regular season play. I will confirm dates soon.

Many people who are not from the area would like to enter the contest, however, are not able to submit picks every week. The contest has a solution where the players MAY AUTHORIZE A PROXY(a person authorized to act for you) TO SUBMIT THEIR SELECTIONS BY PROPERLY SIGNING AND AUTHORIZING SUCH, IN PERSON AT THE SUPERBOOK. I was asked if people can share entries, actually multiple shared teams have won so yes it can be done.

We have many references as proxies from past and current entrants. Ken a good friend has helped me for years with the contests and is taking more of a roll again this year as I'm less than a year from graduating from an intensive program. Timewise Ken has all the time needed to devote to all contests in town and has a place 2 blocks from the LVH and many other sportsbooks. Many entrants to the contest also write off a portion of the entry fee as a marketing/business expense because they use their website or sports service for the entry name. To make it clear you are simply AUTHORIZING TO PUT PICKS IN EVERY WEEK. PROXIES CANNOT COLLECT ANYTHING, IF YOU FEEL FOR WHATEVER REASON THE % IS NOT REASONABLE THEN THAT IS OK. Nobody has ever said we are not approachable to communicate an agreement or understanding. The thought process is to protect against certain incidents that have happened to me in the past and others where significant amounts were won in sports contests and other ways and unfortunately the players chose not to tip out anything or a very small amount with a handshake. The contest is 5 games a week against the point spread, sides only.

Should you have any questions regarding rules, regulations, or want to set up a time to meet when in Las Vegas, please do not hesitate to contact me by PM or at lvhpicks1@yahoo.com or at 702-336-2113.

The going rate for this type of service is $250 in addition to 5% of winnings. We really don't make much off the up front fee, with thursday games all the time now, We are down there minimum 3 times a week often more(50+) to accommodate the people in the contest especially late in the season. They start accepting entries July 1st . I will update the thread periodically. You can PM me or write to lvhpicks1@yahoo.com

Hi Sharky:
Do I need to sign up in person with you, as the proxy, or can you, as the proxy, sign up for me, and claim yourself as the proxy? Basically I want to know whether I have to go to LV to sign up in person? Unfortunately I will only be there in September, a few weeks into the season.

Thanks,
Steiner

My suggestion is for you to sign up on your own or have someone(ie. friend or family member) sign up for you. The prize money is getting bigger every year and for your own piece of mind I would do that. Having a 3rd party do it opens you up to concerns because the 3rd person can simply collect and leave. If you decide to go that route I suggest a notarized document signed by all parties involved. Remember PROXIES CANNOT COLLECT, the entry name does.

Also I am sure ALL PROXIES wouldn't want to sign up for you in their name.

As a Proxy I wouldn't do it, cause if you did cash in and collect, the PROXY would be held liable for all taxes on the winnings.

The more you win, the more the Proxy is liable for when Uncle Sam comes knocking.

I know some from up north had significance wins and were able to get a large percentage back but to tell you the exact amount, I don't have that info, best thing is to check with your tax adviser. I know multiple people have told me they have written off the entry fee or a portion there of because they marketing a business or sportservice and use the appropriate channels to do so

I would cause I would make sure how much I owed before I hand over the winners share...The LVH takes no money they leave that up to you with your 1099...The finance dept cuts you a check and you can cash that check at the cashiers cage...LY 1st pl 542,000 and lets say taxes were 200,000 so I'm taking that along with my 5% (27,000) so 315,000 goes to contestant who you signed up for and they don't pay anything...Just make sure they bring a brief case...
