Well as the first half of the 2007 season is winding down, I always like to see what teams are exceeding expectations and which teams are underachieving expectations.
Some quick thoughts
Boston/LAA - Both teams have troubles scoring consistently on the road. Halos have a better pen, but I see a dropoff for both either in the latter half of the season or early playoffs.
Oakland - Lets not leave the A's out of it yet either. I liked the A's to win the division before the season started and while that does not look like it is going to happen, this team streaks like no other. July should be a good indicator for the As.
The race in the AL Central should be fun. Cleveland is already making it interesting by being competitive and having some great pitching from CC & Carmona, and Detroit to me is the most conistent team in baseball right now. You thought I was gonna leave the Twins out, huh? Nope. Santana has great 2nd half's statistically and I just see a tight finish here. Afterall, Twins came back and won the Central last year.
Seattle - A win today would put them 2.5 back of LAA. Getting rid of Weaver would be great, but they could use another consistent arm. Really like how this team is playing ball.
NY Mets - Kind of a brutal stretch here for the Mets. Considering the injuries and the offensive drop off lately, the Mets still find themselves 2.5 games in 1st place.
Atlanta - Hopefully Andruw will find his stroke and get this offense back on track, but I still have some doubt in their pen. H2H series vs the Mets will be key down the stretch.
NL Central - still anyone's division. Brewer's might fade down the stretch, Houston is notorious for their 2nd half runs. This leaves the Cubs, Cardinals, Pirates left. I loved the Cards last year, but I feel they do not have the pitching at this point to make it back to where they were.
LA Dodgers - I still like the Blue to win the West, as I believe they are the team to beat. Just don't see as much production out of the Padres as others do.
Those are some early thoughts of mine.
What do you see in store for the 2nd Half of the 2007 Season?
