Very subjective. I assume you mean active, which makes me lean towards Joe Torre in MLB. I know he has had a lot of talent, but he still does a hell of a job keeping the Yanks on top. Jackson in the NBA has to get the nod, although he is another who has been blessed with great teams.

i assume we are talking current. if so...

in alphabetical order:

bill belichick - we know who he is
dick bennett - wash state men's hoops coach (we saw what he did @ UWGB and wisky and what he is doing at WSU - he has NO talent at all - and all he does is win - it may be ugly - but he wins and that is all he cares about)
larry brown - been around forever - but can still coach
stew morrill - utah state men's hoops coach
bob thomasson - pacific men's head coach

Jman is the list all-time or active? All time is a much larger question.

Coach K produced one of the funnier one-liners ever. After being asked about DU's latest ranking by the AP writers, he once quipped, "The only Pol I pay attention to is my mother!"

Wil-

Red is considered the greatest basketball coach ever by the majority I would think.

Good selection.

Auerbach as the greatest basketball coach of all times?

You have to be fuc*ing kidding me. That's like saying you would take Bill Rusell (6'9.5'' at CENTER) over Michael Jordan in your lineup for a modern game if for some reason you were able to get both players at their prime.

Hell, I'd take Shack ('00), Duncan('03), Garnett ('04), Hakeem ('94) over any "version" of Russell you want to put on the floor. All 7 footers that would just crush him on the low block.

Sure, they won a lot of championships. You have to take into account that the league consisted of 8(?) teams, there was NO FREE AGENCY so they kept the core players at all times. Also, his team out$pent all others. If it was that easy now don't you think Portland, NY, and Dallas would have purchased championships by now?

I would agree with alot of that....The Celts were alot like the Yankees are now, best team money could by...Thats why I don`t include Joe Torre on my active top 5..I am 100% certain I could have managed the Yankees to several division titles in the past 7 years..

Alltime coaches...

Noll, Weaver,Wooden,Lombardi and Bob Knight
