to bring in 2 out of 3 relievers that pitched the night before?

Can someone with more knowledge of baseball than me obviously explain this one??

Why would he possibly do it?
What was his motive and reasoning?

Wizzah - I am a Pirates fan and was watching the game. I was shocked myself. He pinch hit for him with 2 outs and a man on first. Managers baby pitch counts early in the season way too much. This is a veteran, I mean it is Tom Glavine! Great result for me as a fan but if you had cash on the Mets this qualifies as a bad beat.

I actually had the under.

I was cruising along but I immediately said to myself, this is some BS when the reliever came in.

He only had 78 pitches so the pitch count thing for HOWE was bs...

What a total cluster

At least I can sleep tonight:

"I never felt correct all night," Glavine said regarding his sore shoulder. "With the cold weather and being early in the season it was something I didn't want to push."

Glavine doesn't think he will miss a start and just wanted to error on the side of caution.

"At this point in my career there is some degree of pain every time I go out there," Glavine said. "You have to try and manage with it and deal with. Some nights things go better than other nights."
