BETonSPORTS plc (LSE: BSS.L) operator of the world’s largest online wagering service, BETonSPORTS.com, today announced the launch of a broad public policy initiative titled “Proposition 1: To Regulate or Prohibit Online Gambling?” designed to create the framework for sensible and realistic regulation of online gambling in the U.S.

The initiative will be anchored by a national summit tour during September in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles. Summit meetings will bring together experts in law, academia, industry and government to stimulate the discussion and debate needed to address issues critical to the development of federal regulation that will both recognize the growth and popularity of online gambling and provide key consumer protections.

This begins with a focus on the merits of existing proposed legislation in Congress, but also looks at efforts by the Department of Justice to prohibit advertising by online gambling companies. Moreover, the initiative will address what the online and traditional “land-based” segments of the gambling industry should be doing together to demonstrate leadership in providing Congress valuable input and in protecting consumers.

To assist lawmakers with the process of developing the right legislation for consumers, BETonSPORTS will capture the key findings from the initiative in a white paper which it will publish just after the November 2 election.

“As an emerging form of entertainment, online gambling is growing exponentially and is here to stay in the U.S. Efforts in Congress to develop legislation have stalled and are otherwise polarizing people. The Department of Justice’s approach is also counterproductive. There’s a public policy vacuum on the issues and it’s in the best interests of consumers for industry to step in and help focus on what’s most important to consider and accomplish in creating legislation,” said David Carruthers, CEO of BETonSPORTS.

Also part of the initiative is a series of college campus debates and an advertising campaign.

College Debates
BETonSPORTS will host a series of debates that tackle the issues surrounding the growth and proliferation of online gambling on college campuses – from whether “responsible gambling” is a contradiction in terms, to exploration of the ethical issues of student-athletes wagering on collegiate games.

Students make up a growing part of the online gambling market and yet they have not been actively engaged on the issues, let alone discussion on what constitutes responsible online gambling. Moreover, according to the NCAA, gambling by student-athletes is occurring at a “startling” rate. As students continue to use the Internet for gambling, these debates will help them become better informed on the issues, understand responsible gambling, and have an impact on public policy-making.

National Advertising Campaign
As part of BETonSPORTS’ “Right to Wager” campaign, television advertisements making the case for online gambling enthusiasts’ right to decide whether to wager online or not have started airing in 20 cities across the U.S. including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. The television ads are running in conjunction with an online campaign where visitors are asked to sign a petition and/or send a letter to their congressman. Print advertising is set to run in newspapers nationwide as well.

OOOPS. I guess the Feds did not like that.

Carruthers is trying to educate the public and our goverment is trying to keep it stupid, but worse, with no say in the matter whats so ever. They are being protected, thats all they need to know.

Haven't we been calling on companies offshore to do just that as far as advertising.

Was BoS doing the right thing or out of there minds? Is this not exactly what the society needs to start doing?

Bottom line. All do know in retrospect that BoS did in fact try to do more to secure the gamblers right to gamble online as well as educate the public at large, more than any one by far, anywhere.

Nobody listened. I am sure very few remember this or the pushes they made. Certainly in the general public sense. Only 7 people read this thread.

I don't know if BoS is the right spokesperson. It's kind of like sending Alfonse Capone to Congress to promote the use of tommy guns.

Maybe the sponser won't become public knowledge if they get a lot of experts on board.

That was the point. They were not the only ones in 04 trying to bring issues to the mainstream.

Everyone in the society was so into there Jr Wiseguydom that they never paid attention. No one felt threatned back then, but at the same time serious disscussions took place on how to prepare for a time when the gov would come back around again and threaten everybody.

Historical eveidence is clear on this. It called be FAT and HAPPY. Its not my problem why should I be concerned or do anyhthing about it, I got mine. Its a serious attitude problem that plauges the industry/society.

Now, when we are hanging on by the skin of our teeth, with excutives in forgiegn countries being held political hostage, does anybody want to do do anything. VERY FEW of them at that in the big picture want to. The rest are scared or only care about themselves.

There is a movement on today that has met with more resistance and fear, than any in our history. It is time for that crap to stop and all in the community need to start playing there roles to bring about the type of society they truly want.

Agreed.

GK was a/the problem. In my opinion the managment team never had a say in any thing going on and very certainly were not allowed/dared to say anything under any circumstance.

I have always accorded Carruthers CEO respect and he did what a CEO does, build brand AWARENESS. He did have an unlimited budget to work with. Booking was not his concern and he went about his job accordingly, along with the rest of the managment team.

Its the US or why else be in buisness? He went about cultivating the market. Meanwhile, Gary is betting out and buying up properties at an insane rate, inside a two year period no less.

One thing is obvious, at one time, BoS was sitting on a Mountain of cash.
When you look at there aqquisitons, plus what they had to spend to go public starting in 02, and assuming that they only made half the 3.6 billion they said they made between 00-03, they had to be sitting on 200 million + CLEAR, at the start of 2004. I say 300+ because I can include credit shop in this work up, which is what half the 00-03 numbers have to be made from. In the real world that money dont exist, but on the prospectus that got them by the LSE and onto AIM, it does.

Not good. Its not like credit shop money is deposited into a bank or something. Wait to the US figures that one out. (Insert evil laugh.) What bank records? If they only knew the truth.

In any event after the 26 million dollar payment to the Asians for the properties they bought, BoS was effectivly, void of there float. They went from taking loans on there deposits, to needing deposits to survive and stay open. In short, thats exactly what it is.

Once Gary knew the money was running out, and that they were losing customers at the time of year everybody does, he went ballastic.
He went from running things and taking the daily heat, to DEMANDING from the managment team, how in the hell they let this shit go on for so long. Between aqquistions, advertising and now a dividend payment due,
they were in trouble and the managment team acted accordingly.

A classic tale of two stories inside one company. Everything was all well and good until the tyrant turned on the employess and demanded they fix all the problems he created with his unbridled greed.

Meanwhile the employees who were trying to develop the market to feed that greed, turned around in pure fear for there lives and jobs, started doing things they had never done before, to try and stay afloat, thus furhter accelarating the BoS decline.

Gary went out and got the right person, with the right ideas. that knew how to do the right things, and he was fucking him from behind the whole time.

A similar thing I feel is going on at Mansion. Only the owner is not a tyrant, he is just mysterious and unknown, which always makes people afraid. Also, he has really, super deep pockets and managers at the very high levels whom are task masters unreal, I am told. So, somebody is at least towing the line and accounting for things, Win, Lose or Draw.

That was never the case with BoS. None the less, they still were the principal ones out there fighting for our rights to gamble online.

Sportingbet came on a bit earlier with their "Please, sir, can we pay tax?" campaign.

Both were spot on, but it may still be NROG and saveonlinegambling.com that get the credit in the future.

I dont know about credit, but they will be seen as the ones who came foward at the time a smypathetic ear swung the societys way after 60 years and started to try and lead people out in the mainstream towards acceptance.

Many of you can not see that things have swung our way, but I can assure you they have. Exciting times are just ahead.

For the rest you will have to keep up with me at MW, under my Juice nickname.
