Beverly Hills Bookie has generously stepped up with three thousand dollars in prizes for The Prescription's 2003 Playoff Contest.

Prizes, which are accounts at BHB and are subject to a three times rollover requirement, will be awarded as follows:

Best Bankroll at End of Playoffs:
1st Place: 1,200 dollars
2nd Place: 600 dollars
3rd Place: 400 dollars

Best Results by Round: 200 dollars per round

The Prescriptions's 2003 NHL Playoff Contest is a combination of handicapping and money management. Contestants will start off with a bankroll of 40 units and will attempt to grow it as much possible, selecting from sides, totals and parlays for each of the games in the playoffs and from odds on the series, conference and Stanley Cup winner.

The contest is subject to the following rules:

1. Contest Registration:

- All contestants must be registered prior to 11:59pm Friday 11 April 2003 in order to participate in the contest.
- Any contestant that has previously registered for either the Full Season or Second Half Contest is automatically registered in the Playoff Contest.
- One contest entry is allowed per person; contestants posting under multiple IDs will be disqualified.

2. Initial Bankroll and Minimum Play Requirements:

- Contestants will receive an initial bankroll of 40 units.
- Contestants are subject to the following minimum play requirement, which is based on units placed at risk:
Round 1: 20 units placed at risk
Round 2: 20 units placed at risk
Rounds 1 and 2 Combined: 60 units placed at risk
Round 3: 20 units placed at risk
Round 4: 20 units placed at risk
- Pushes will be counted towards units placed at risk.
- Selections made prior to a round on the Stanley Cup winner, conference winner or series winner count towards the minimum play requirement for the round prior to which they are placed.
- Selections made on the Stanley Cup winner, conference winner or series winner count towards the round which determines their outcome for the purpose of calculating the score for each round of the playoffs. Correct conference winner selections are counted towards Round 3 and correct Stanley Cup winner selections are counted towards Round 4.
- Any contestant who has sufficient units in their bankroll at the start of a round to meet the minimum play requirements, but does not meet the requirement, will be dropped from the contest at the conclusion of the round in which they do not meet the minimum requirements.
- Any contestant who does not have sufficient units in their bankroll at the start of a round to to meet the minimum play requirements, but has pending Stanley Cup or conference winner futures selections (ie: the team in the Stanley Cup or conference winner futures selection must not be eliminated from the playoffs), is required to place their entire amount of their bankroll at risk over that round to remain in the contest. The only exception is where the bankroll is less than one unit, when it would not be possible to make any selections.

3. Types of Selections Permitted:

- Prior to the start of each round, odds will be posted for:
Team to Win Stanley Cup
Team to Win Conference
Team to Win Series
- For each game, odds will be posted for:
Team to Win Game (Underdog either -0.5 or -1.0)
Team to Win Game (Favourite -0.5, -1.0 and -1.5)
Total Goals in Game (Two Totals)
Same-Game Parlays of Sides and Totals (Using Favourite -0.5 and -1.5 and One Total)
- For any individual game, selecting one or both of the side and total individually precludes the contestant from selecting a parlay on the same game.
- For any individual game, selecting a parlay precludes the contestant from selecting one or both of the side and total individually on the same game.
- Subject to maximum units at risk on an individual side limits, a contestant may select more than one of the sides and more than one of the totals on the same game.
- For any individual game, contestants may vary the number of units associated with each selection, subject to the maximum units at risk limit.
- The number of units associated with each selection must be an integer. For underdogs or parlays paying +100 or better, the number of units for the selection represents the number of units at risk. For favourites or parlays paying less than +100, the number of units for the selection represents the number of units to be won.
- There is no limit to the number of selections permitted per day, other than the size of the bankroll.

4. Maximum Units at Risk:

- Contestants may make selections up to the Maximum Units at Risk limits:
Round 1:
Individual Sides and Totals: 2 Units Each per Game
Parlays: 1 Unit per Game
Stanley Cup, Conference and Series: 4 Units per Team on Each Option
Round 2:
Individual Sides and Totals: 2 Units Each per Game,
Parlays: 1 Unit per Game,
Stanley Cup, Conference and Series: 4 Units per Team on Each Option
Round 3:
Individual Sides and Totals: 4 Units Each per Game
Parlays: 2 Units per Game
Stanley Cup and Series: 8 Units per Team on Each Option
Round 4:
Individual Sides and Totals: 6 Units Each per Game
Parlays: 3 Units per Game
Stanley Cup: 12 Units per Team

5. Grading Assumptions:

- It is assumed that all selections are graded only once per day, after all games are completed. (The bankroll figure from the end of the preceding day of the contest represents the maximum number of units available for selections on the current day.)
- All series wagers are graded at the conclusion of each round of the playoffs.
- For the purposes of grading, the team name and selection type are required, along with the number of units associated with the selection.
- The selection will not be inferred from the odds posted when the selection type is not provided.
(eg: If the line is Home Team -0.5 -140, Home Team -1 +100, Home Team -1.5 +160, the selection must be either of the form provided or Home Team -0.5, Home Team -1 or Home Team -1.5. A selection of Home Team +100 will not be graded, even though it may be possible to infer the selection from the odds provided.)
- For the purposes of grading, all selections are graded from top to bottom in a post. The first time that an unacceptable selection on a game is encountered, all subsequent selections will be disregarded on that game.
(eg: If a contestant selects Home Team -0.5 -140, Home Team -0.5 -140 & Home Team under 5 -120 (a parlay), Home Team under 5 -120, the second and third selections would be disregarded. Because the second selection is an unacceptable selection (both a side and a parlay on the same game), it and all subsequent selections would be disregarded.)
(eg: If a contestant selects Home Team -0.5 -140 for one unit and Home Team -1.5 +160 for two units in Round 1 (where the limit is two units), the second selection would be disregarded.)
- For the purposes of grading, all parlay odds will be rounded down to a multiple of 0.1 units. (eg: Parlay odds of +326 would be rounded down to +320.)

6. Selection Posting Requirements:

- All selections must be posted in the Official Contest Thread.
- There will be a separate Official Contest Thread for the Team to Win Stanley Cup, Team to Win Conference and Team to Win Series.
- There will be an Official Contest Thread for the Sides and Totals each day.
- In the event that a game is off the board when the Official Contest Thread is first posted, it will be subsequently added to the Official Contest Thread when the lines are available.
- Contestants may post to the Official Contest Thread as many times as they wish, subject to the requirement that all selections with respect to any one game are posted within a single post.

- All selections must be made no later than the posted game time in the Official Contest Thread. (This will continue to be :00 and :30.)
- There is a five minute grace period permitted after the posted game time in which posts will still be allowed, provided that no goals are scored in the first three minutes of the game. (The first goal scored at 3:00 or earlier of the first period would result in selections on that game made in the grace period to be disallowed.)

- Editing posts is permitted up to fifteen minutes prior to the earliest posted game time.
- Editing of posts is not permitted less than fifteen minutes prior to the earliest posted game time. Any editing of posts which produces a notation that the post has been edited after this time will result in disqualfication.
(If the earliest posted game time is 7:00pm EST, editing posts is permitted up to and including 6:45pm. Any editing of posts after 6:46pm that produces a notation that the post has been edited will result in disqualification.)
- No correction posts are permitted.

- For the avoidance of confusion, each individual selection should be on one line.
- Selections should contain the team name, the selection type (eg: pick, -1 1/2, over) and the number of units associated with the selection. (The line associated with each wager is not a requirement, as the team name and selection type govern the grading process.)

The short version of the rules:

1. Know how much is in your bankroll. Make sure that you put 20 units at risk in the first round and 60 units at risk in the first and second rounds combined. And don't exceed your bankroll.

2. Know the limits on each type of selection for the first round. You can vary the number of units on a selection, just make sure that the number units for the selection is an integer. You can also take multiple sides or totals on a game, but the number of units on these selections combined has to be within the limits.

3. Make sure that you don't mix sides and totals with parlays on the same game.

4. Post as often as you like, but make sure that all of your selections for one game appear in the same post.

5. If you make a mistake, you can edit your post up to fifteen minutes before game time. You can not make a correcting post.

6. If you miss the cutoff time, still post. If your selections are less than five minutes late and there are no goals in the first three minutes of the game in question, your selections will be graded.

7. Put one selection per line and make your selection clear. Specify the team name and selection type, as well as the number of units.

The long version of the rules govern. But if you follow the basic points here, it will probably get you through the contest without a problem.
