2003 NHL Playoff Contest- Sponsored by Beverly Hills Bookie
----------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you all for your patience and understanding in getting through the first two or three days of the contest. From an administrative point of view, almost everyone seems to be understand the rules and is posting selections that are consistent with the rules.

In order to head off an problems before they start, I want to draw your attention to the following points:

Assumed Units for Selections: Any time that the number of units for a selection are not specified, it will be assumed that the selection is for one unit. I had originally noted in the rules that selections without units specified would not be graded, but this approach is probably a bit more reasonable.

Clarity of Selections: Every selection must have the have the team and the selection type and my contain the odds and the number of units.

The team would either be 'Home Team' or 'Visiting Team'.

The selection type would be '-1.5, -1.0, -0.5, +0.5, +1.0 or +1.5' or 'over 5.0 or under 5.0 or whatever the total is'.

You can include the odds with a selection, but this will not be used to infer the selection, when the selection type is not specified. For example, if the relevant contest line is Home Team -1.5 +120, I will grade selections of 'Home Team -1.5 +120' or 'Home Team -1.5', but I will not grade 'Home Team +120'. This was in the rules, plus I have asked for cooperation about this in the Thursday results post.

The number of units does not need to be specified, but if it is not specified, it will be assumed to be one.

Bad Lines and Errors: If a bad line is posted, contestants are welcome to make selections based on that bad line. If parlay odds are not calculated correctly, they will be revised. If a bad line is posted and brought to my attention, I will go back to the original post and highlight it for all contestants.

One Selection Per Row: Please post only one selection per row. Particularly since I am willing to assume the number of units associated with a selection, I can not tell what is intended by a selection where two teams are placed in the same row (eg: Home Team -0.5 Home Team over 5).

Available Selections: Each day, I expect to post four sides on each game (Favourite -1.5, -1.0, -0.5 and either +0.5 or +1.0) and two totals. If those lines for these selections are not available when the games are first posted, please check back later and edit your original post. Do not post against an anticipated line (eg: Home Team +1.0 at whatever the line is). For example, on Friday night, these Home Team +1.0 lines were not available.

Review Your Scores Daily: Please review your scores on a daily basis for accuracy. (I may add a rule with respect to inaccurate scores, but I want to check it with some others first.)

Some Rules That a Few People Just Aren't Following:
- You can take either sides and totals on a game or you can take a parlay. You can not take both.
- You can take more than one side and more than one total, but the number of units on side selections can not be greater than 2 (for Round 1 and 2) and the number of units on total selections can not be greater than 2 (for Round 1 and 2).
- You can only take one parlay per game, as it must be for 1 unit (for Round 1 and 2).
- You can not make up your own parlays. If you select one, it has to be one of the eight combinations that are available for each game.

Cutoff Times: Cutoff times remain at the top and bottom of the hour, with a five minute grace period. The five minute grace period is five more minutes than you had in the regular season contest. It is designed to ensure that if you get into that grace period, combined with the seven or eight minutes delay before an edit notation is added to a post, that contestants don't get a free look at the first few minutes of a game in which they can change their selections. The fact that games seem to be starting at 12 or 15 minutes past the top or bottom of the hour also seem to help ensure that no free look is possible.

And, best of luck to everyone has signed up and posted selections.

jeff,

thanks for your work buddy.

i've got one simple question (it is probably listed in the rule book, so i'm very sorry to border you)

do we have to make picks on series winners ?

so far i played only individual games, and i have no pending plays on futures.

did i screw something ?

No requirement to select series or futures- these were just additional possibilities.
