tough day yesterday as evidenced by the big carryover; will be chasing it, but here are the two plays i like best.

r6: trevite. son of bertrando is all bullets for his return and with a clean break, this is a layup.

r8: terroplane. more aggressive ride from desormeaux should land this one in the winner's circle at a decent price today.

Mazeltrick: I actually have been following Greek Sun(Terroplane race). The figs for all top contenders here don't vary all that much...however: his race in the Secretariat on Arlington Million day-- the internal fractions there were swifter, and he had trouble. His last Belmont race can be totally discounted: didn't care for the yielding ground, was kept too close to the early pace-- the winning profile for that race & others during that rainy spell was to lag at the very rear-- and he still put up a decent figure nonetheless. Add to this the way he's been leapfrogging conditions....I put this horse on par with Artie Schiller & Kitten's Joy if he keeps improving: he wouldn't be embarassed vying for divisional championship.

By the same token i think that Terroplane's vanquisher: Blackdoun is overrated(he's beaten such crappy fields)-- as is/ has been the whole Del Mar meet for the last few years now.

Though I just couldn't rationalize betting him vs Terroplane in the Pinny matchup: he was as high as -200 at one point...

Regards.....

charleslanger,

i agree with your assessment of blackdoun. it's apparent that he's been beating less than stellar fields at del mar over the summer (and by diminishing margins). i was all over greek sun in the secretariat and just did not forgive his awful performance last out at belmont. i still don't think he's near as good as kitten's joy (as he just lacks the tactical speed to be as effective) and artie schiller, but he should be tough if he stays in the depleted southern california turf division.

Prado didn't urge him very much-- all that was mostly on his own. & I think the trip did Terroplane in-- laying too close on giving turf, esp at a mile and one eighth: one sixteenth, flat mile i could see.... but guess from that killer post there was no viable alternative really-- position-wise that is......

terroplane is a g3 at best miler. kent sent him four wide around the entire track, but he's never going to beat greek sun or any of the big boys at 9 furlongs. as for greek sun, i'm still not sold on him in the same league as 'joy and schiller, but time will tell. i don't think he can outkick the big boys giving them 5-6 lengths head start at the quarter pole.

You're probably right-- and those two boys are very push button: they can be placed anywhere and will move when asked.........
