- Atlanta -3

The 76ers are playing their 3rd game in 4 nights, so I imagine they won't have their best outing tonight. The Hawks on the other hand have had a couple days off since winning emphatically against Orlando, and now look to make some noise in their home opener.

The Hawks match up well with the Sixers in every position except C due to a height advantage for the Sixers. However, the Hawks are just as physically strong and athletic as their opponent, which will really limit what Philly is able to get done. Remember, against the Raptors the Sixers struggled dealing with Bosh, O'Neal and Moon. Tonight it doesn't get any easier against Horford, Smith, and Marvin Williams who comes back tonight after missing the opener due to a 1 game suspension.

I also like the Hawks ability to shoot the long ball over Philly, which is often a critical component of a home team's success once they start to ride the crowd at various points in any given home game.

Don't sleep on the Hawks this season, my friends. Bibby, Johnson, Williams, Smith, Horford as starters, Evans, Law and Pachulia off the bench....they are legit and they work well as a team. And scary as it is, Smith, Horford, Law and Williams haven't even reached their potential yet.

- New Orleans -3

Imagine my delight when I woke up this morning and went to lock in New Orleans at -4 and saw my book had it at -3 now. Sweeter than the sugar in my morning coffee.

The public will probably be looking strongly at Cleveland after the Cavs nearly beat Boston on Thursday. This is misleading, however. For one, the Cavs have a history with Boston and were no doubt pumped up to show up their rivals. Secondly, Cleveland plays well against slow-paced teams who thrive in half court sets and methodical play. Therefore, the Cavs usually play well against Boston, Detroit, etc.

Against New Orleans however, the Cavs will be in serious trouble if their secondary players aren't knocking down a hell of a lot of shots that LeBron creates for them. The Hornets will just take the rock and pound them on the fast break. New Orleans has a clear advantage in shooting, rebounding, passing, the fast break, and IMO a better bench.

Furthermore, Cleveland's ace in the hole of having LeBron is somewhat trumped, because on the other end of the court, you have CP3 who controls a game with the same effectiveness and ease that LeBron does.

Now I know you're thinking, damn, Chandler and Stojakovic are out for today. I still think New Orleans is good here, especially after the morale-boosting win over Phoenix the other night. It's opening night in New Orleans and I'm sure the Hornets will be pumped. And what's more, Posey and Butler can fill in just nicely for the injured Stojakovic. And if New Orleans could beat Shaq and Amare without Chandler, they can sure handle Ilgauskas and Wallace without him and run them out of the gym.

I have to think deeper about Memphis +8.5 tonight and the Lakers -8.5 as well. I think this is a good spot for the Lakers to beat down Denver, and Memphis +8.5 against the Bulls is ridiculous. Something just isn't right about 8.5 points though, if I play these I will post later.

GL today guys:toast:

I do. Try and check out my picks in the NFL forum every Sunday. My record this year so far is 22-11-2, not too shabby.
