The first bet of the week is the under in the N.C. State/South Carolina game. Neither offense is looking very strong, with NC State decimated by injuries, and a QB situation that is very dicey. THey just names Redshirt Freshman Russel Wilson as starter, so they have a QB with no experience against a very strong SC defense. SC's offense hasn't looked great in the preseason either, with little experience from their starter as well. Look for this to maybe get to the low to mid 30's for a total, with the combination of a very good defense from South Carolina and sub-par offenses on both parts. Take under 48.5 before it drops.
The next strong play is CLemson vs Bama. I know CLemson has a history of dropping games that they should win, but this is typically late in the season, and to a piss-poor team. They have game-planned for Bama all off-season, and are absolutely loaded coming back. They have the ACC Preseason player of the year in QB Cullen Harper, the 2 top returning RB's in Spiller and Davis, and one of the top WR's in the ACC in Aaron Kelly, who is set up to become the ACC's all time leader this year.
The defense is strong, with the exception of a re-vamped unit at LB, but have been impressive in the offseason workouts. The secondary is strong, the D-line is going to be nothing but beasts, with Ricky Sapp coming on this year as the next Gaines Adams, and true freshman Daquan Bowers at end, who is beyond a freak. He had the physical tools to be playing college ball as a junior in high school from what the coaches and scouts have said, and has been unstoppable since enrolling early in January, and going through Spring ball and pre-season drills. Look for him to make an immediate impact, with the Sapp-Bowers combo.
The one weakness for Clemson will be their offensive line, and this is going to be pivotal, after losing 4 starters. But, they do have several players that have significant game experience, and a solid center, Thomas Austin, to anchor the line. They have been impressive in the pre-season, to be such a young unit, and look poised to surprise some people.
Alabama does have some talent, but the bulk of it is young, with little no to experience. They will be filling up the field with both redshirt and true freshmen, so look for Clemson to overwhelm this young team in a national prime time game. Alabama will return to prominence in the next couple of years, coupling Saban's recruiting and defensive prowess, but they are simply too young to contend with such a talented, experience team as Clemson. Early line is now at CLemson -5.... take it, and take it big. Even with an unexperienced line, look for Clemson to jump out early with an explosive offense, and a defense that will force turnovers. This should be a 2 TD win.
