1995 olympic skating champ arrested in meth bust

Former figure skating champion and Olympian Nicole Bobek was free on bond Tuesday after New Jersey police accused her of being part of a drug ring.
Bobek, 31, who won the U.S. figure skating title in 1995, was arrested at her home in Jupiter, Florida, last week on a charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County, New Jersey, according to Guy Gregory of the Hudson County prosecutor’s office.
She waived extradition rights to face the charges in New Jersey and made her first appearance in court on Monday via video, entering a plea of not guilty, Gregory said.
Bobek was released Monday night on bond, according to Sean Wilkes of the Hudson County Jail.
According to the prosecutor’s office, 20 people have been arrested in connection with the alleged drug ring, which police have been investigating for nearly a year.
Bobek could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Her attorney, Sam DeLuca, was not immediately available for comment.

I remember she had family and personal issues during and pre olympic years. If I remember correctly she was one of the first skaters to try a triple sowcow in competition. I feel sorry for her. She'll be in my prayer's.

yeah she looks busted up in that pic, meth will fuck people up, i've seen it happen to many people i've known.
I still call it crank cause when it first appeared around here years ago ,that's what it was called.
I remember people talking about going hunting for white buffalo's, basically talking about going onto farmers land looking for these certain fertilizer tanks that they needed some chemical out of.
I never was big on cocaine, but i've tried it, but i never wanted to try crank or meth , cause it is basically just a bunch of chemicals mixed together, and it can be made so many different ways with so many different types of toxic chemicals, i just never got it. Coke may be bad, but it at least comes from a plant. And on coke , i might grind my teeth a little and be a little on edge for a hour or so, but i could smoke a bowl and drink a beer and be better in a little. On crank i've seen people just on edge for hours and scratching and flipping out, but then you ask if they are all right and its " oh yeah, i'm fine, this shit is great, i'm flying" and you think to yourself "um, ok?"
Me and some old friends that went through are little coke days , we used to call crank the poor mans coke.
i will say one thing, if you want to lose weight and possibly your teeth, just get on crank.
I've known a couple girls that were average weight, some might say had a couple extra pounds, but they got on that shit and went down to skin and bones, but once they got off of it, damn, they ballooned up to fat cows. One girl i knew years ago was like 5'5 and maybe 115, 120 at the most, she went down to like 80-85, then i didn't see her for a while , ran into her at a club, i didn't recognize her, i would've thought she had on one of those fat suit things, plus she was in a red tracksuit, she looked like santa clause's wife.

Bobek has been detained and charged with possession and intent to distribute methamphetamine, reportedly playing an important role in the drug ring, the New York Daily News informs citing official statements from authorities.

“Former U.S. figure skating champion Nicole Bobek has been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County, New Jersey. Bobek, who won the women’s U.S. figure skating title in 1995, was arrested last week in Florida and brought to New Jersey to appear in Central Judicial Processing Court via videolink Monday from the Hudson County Jail in Kearny, N.Y. The 31-year-old, who has homes in New York and Jupiter, Fla., is accused of being involved in a northern New Jersey drug ring.” the publication says of the arrest.

According to prosecutor Edward DeFazio, the crimes that Bobek is currently being charged with took place in New York, with 20 other individuals being arrested during the same raid. Bobek’s attorney, in his turn, has refused to make any comment to the media regarding the arrest. He has, however, entered a not guilty plea in the case – it is believed a statement from camp Bobek regarding the scandal should be coming any day now.

Nevertheless, this is not the first time that Bobek finds herself in legal trouble. Back in 1994, she was charged with first degree home invasion, after she took the keys to a friend’s house and broke in with the clear intent of stealing money. She was caught in the act, returned the money and said she had been sent there to retrieve it by another member of the household, a statement she retracted at a later hour, when she pled guilty to the charges. She was consequently put on two years’ probation and was asked to choose between fifty hours of community service and thirty days in jail.

Things are more serious this time around, though. If found guilty, the former skating champion could face up to ten years behind bars. </td></tr></tbody></table>
