No, I would not propose you do nothing. However, I do know that what I would propose is a. never going to happen, and b. not going to be approved by you and yours. I should think the US should be getting its arse out of the Middle East altogether. Stop supporting Israel at every turn; diminish political ties with the Saudis. Abandon the dream of being the dominant power in the MidEast and start planning for China's quiet rise and impeninding threat. You guys are going to spread yourselves too thin and someone will ultimately be in a position to take advantage.

It's not because they hate your freedom, or because your women have jobs, or because you're not Muslims -- it's because you're threatening their very existence, certainly their sovereignty, in the MidEast. Terrorists act because they are more successful than any state they could attempt to rely on. Most states, being obvious targets, aren't stupid enough to mess with the US to any great, covert degree. Terrorism has been extremely successful (since your admin has allowed it to be) and will be more successful in the future if your foreign policy in the region continues.
