This Jockey now "retired" to further her education has some good points -

"One more reason out of 25 why American Pharaoh won't will the Triple Crown: He is training at Churchill Downs until 3 days before the Belmont Stakes. The horse doesn't know the track, not only it is a mile and a half, but that is the longest backside stretch in America and the wire is only 3/4 down the stretch. American Pharaoh won't know where the wire is and won't know how to pace himself in the backside. Basically, he will be lost because he doesn't know the track. Horses should become familiar with the track they run on, like my horses were. Aqueduct horses win much more in the winter running on home track, just like Belmont horses win more at Belmont where they train. There are plenty of other reasons he won't win the Triple Crown, but this is a huge problem for American Pharaoh to overcome facing the competition he is facing. Too bad the Chief Allen Jerkins isn't here to give us his thoughts.

Ron Paolucci's War Story will bypass the June 6 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) in favor of the June 20 Ohio Derby (gr. III) at Thistledown, the owner confirmed May 26.
The 3-year-old son of Northern Afleet , who finished 16th in the May 2 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) last time out, breezed five furlongs in 1:01 2/5 at Churchill Downs May 26 for trainer Tom Amoss. Track clockers caught him in splits of :12 4/5, :25 2/5, :37 4/5, :50, and out six furlongs in 1:14.
"He worked so good today, I don't want to blow a race," Paolucci said. "He's not a real huge horse, and to ask him to go a mile and a half at this stage in his career, I don't know if it's in the best interests of the horse. What if he runs a mile and a half and it knocks him out forever? He's a gelding, so there's no added value other than winning the race.
"I'll be 50-1 or 60-1 in the Belmont and probably 2-1 to win the Ohio Derby."
