We'll go with the red-hot Kansas City Royals to get their fifth straight win tonight when they continue their series at Cleveland.
Kansas City have surprised many this season to be 78-72 (.520) overall including 40-37 on the road. Four straight wins have them just 3 1/2 games back from the AL Central leading Twins and two games behind the White Sox. Key to the Royals success this season has been their domination of their division rivals as they have posted a stellar 41-23 record. That is an amazing stat when you consider they are .500 or less against the Al East, AL West and in interleague play.
The Royals are 12-5 against the Indians this season including 7-1 at Jacobs Field. Veteran right-hander Paul Abbott (1-1, 4.66 ERA) heads to the mound tonight for the Royals. Although he has been steady in his last five starts he hasn't received the required run support. Abbott is 3-0 with a 3.71 ERA when starting against the Indians.
Cleveland have dropped four straight against their Central division rivals and are just 65-87 (.428) overall this season. Tonight they start Jake Westbrook who is 6-9 with a 4.51 ERA this season. He is just 2-5 through his last ten starts and he was limited to one inning in his last outing because of two rain delays. Westbrook has two career starts against the Royals and is 0-1 despite a 1.29 ERA.
Kansas City are 40-26 this season against teams with losing records while Cleveland are 24-43 against plus .500 teams.
Hot and cold streaks are inevitable during the long and grinding MLB season and we'll ride the Royals tonight to get another road victory.
