A 12-year-old student at a Belpre, W.Va., school apparently has been suspended for bringing a copy of Sports Illustrated to school.

Of course, it wasn't just any old edition of the magazine. Sixth-grader Justin Reyes was suspended for three days for bringing Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition to his public school, Pittsburgh TV station WPXI reported on its Web site on Monday. Belpre City School District officials said sexually suggestive material is not allowed on school property.

I don't think buying the SI swimsuit issue is age restricted, is it? It's just another SI issue. Where does it say it's mean tot be sexually suggestive? It's apparel suggestive...after all, it is the SWIMSUIT issue. This is ridiculous. Why can't the kid just be a fan of fine women's swimming apparel?

I think schools should be allowed to physically punish kids again. A few yard stick ac**** this little punk's knuckles would straighten him out quick.

Schools are for learning, not passing our semi-nudie pictures.

Sherman,
Sorry, but I firmly believe that schools are for learning.

On the contrary. I would have instilled a valuable education, in both a scholastic and ethical sense, into your being.

Well, that, and I would have whacked you a good one for improperly using a double negative (not neither).

j/k - I'm not that bad, but I am a firm believer in "spare the rod, spoil the child." I wouldn't beat my kid, but he's liable to get a slap if he disrespects his mother or I.

I still think that SI swinsuit edition is not as bad as a Playboy, or Hustler magazine, i completely agree that respect should be kept at all times, but i also think this is taking it too far.

Only textbooks should be allowed in public school systems.

Lander, don't you think that school is also the biggest social factor in a kid's life, even if we wanted to, there is no chance that's all you're going to find in a public school

That does'nt mean we should not try and keep some type of authoritive control in the schools.

The kids today are Wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyy out of control, and a good licking when they were younger could have saved alot of them who are in trouble and in jail now.

Unfortunately, because of some abusive nuts certain rules are in place to protect the children and they are taking advantage of it.

I also agree on spare the rod, spoil the child.

The sith grader is getting his 15 minutes. He was just shown on Sportscenter with his mother reading a book, in what looked on the surface to be a normal home.

Just a second, I am not sure what the crime here is. The fact that a 12 year old has a copy of the SI swimsuit issue, for sale to anyone at any number of places in every town in the US. Or is it the fact that he brought the magazine to shcool? Call me crazy, but no way I slap or hit any child for this. Maybe he caught the Super Bowl halftime show, and rushed out to buy SI's swimsuit issue. The kid is already embarrased and suspended from school. Maybe a good father and son talk is called for.
