Me and a group of friends are putting together a $1000 TEN YEAR BET.

We have all known eachother since highschool and all leave near eachother.

The bet is $1000 a man (10 guys)
All the $$$ has been put in an escrow account w/ interest. (one of the guys is a lawyer)
We each had to draw a number out of a hat to get the selection order

The bet:
Pick a college football team.
Who ever has the most wins at the end of the ten years wins it all.
The intrest earned goes towards a weekend in Atlantic City. (we live in Jersey)

The RX forum is great, been reading (and posting alittle) for a few years now and really respect the input of a select few.

My question to you... Who would you pick? (and a little blurb on why)

Thanks guys.

Good luck on your season.

Wow, thats a tough one.

Take your pick.

USC
Ohio St
Texas
Oklahoma
LSU
Florida
BYU

Same teams seem to win 9-11 games a year and dont really see the programs falling off.

I agree it should be a team like Boise who plays in a crappy conference.

Find a Sun Belt team or something that wins 9-10 games every year.

I like Ohio St. because they always have great recruits, and more importantly, they play in the weaker Big 10. I just don't see that program falling off much in the next 10 years. USC is also right there.

Ohio State would be my play here. Only thing that might hurt them is if Rich Rod can turn Michigan back around.

That is quite the bet. Wow.

What happens if someone dies? LOL

Funny you mention that. (lawyers plan ahead usually) If anyone dies, doesn't put in that years $100, quits, school blows up, along with any intrest made goes towards a night out in AC.

Thanks guys, giving me alot to think about.

Interesting. Obviously, all of the big names are going to be chosen. Depending on who's left when you pick...

Take: (INPO)

Texas before Oklahoma

LSU before Florida

Boise before BYU

USC before Ohio State

thats a great idea. I have friends that have been close since grade school. We always do shit like this. Wether its a season long bet, a who can lose the most weight in 2 months bet , who can fuck the most girls in the next month...It's always fun...just the competitive nature of everyone I hang around. We cant even play a pickup basketball game without having some sort of action on it. Degenerates.

anyways...

My pick would be USC. They get without a doubt the best recruits in the country year in and year out. I would 100% stay away from any SEC team because even during a great year they are going to lose 2 games maybe even 3 just in conference. Problem with Boise is if they have one or two down years that might start to hurt their recruiting. If USC has a bad year or even a 500. year they are still going to get the best recruits in the country. I would also shy away from Ohio St. The Big 10 isn't all that great IMO but there will always be those games against Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin. With USC there are always some decent teams (Cal, UCLA, Oregon) but those teams will be up and down over the next ten years.

My order, depending on what selection you get:

1. USC
2. Oklahoma
3. Boise State
4. Texas
5. Ohio State
6. LSU (They are always good even though I'd stay away from SEC)
7. Oregon (Program is settling in and they are starting to rival top schools in the country in recruiting)
8. Florida
9. Last but not least (Pick no one from the Big East because the league has a different champion every single year. You over the next 10 years will see Big East championships from WVU, SOFLA, LOUISVILLE, PITT, (hopefully Syracuse :/ )...

Since this is a 10 year bet, I don't see Stoops staying at OU for even half that time whereas UT will always be in the top 3 of recruiting regardless of coach. As it is, Mack Brown isn't even an X's and O's guy thus potentially much easier to replace for UT than Stoops would be for OU (whose success seems 100% reliant on him). Simply put, UT stands alone far better than OU.

I would take USC obviously, but they'll be gone #1 overall, so unless you have that pick you won't get the Trojans. Next up would be Ohio St because they are consistently the best in their conference. Don't take any team from the SEC. Don't even think about touching that conference. That conference changes best teams almost every year. It'd be smarter to take a team that is the conference winner year after year. West Virginia might be the third choice, but not positive they'll still be the best in the Big East in 5 years. Not much competition in that conference though.

Boise St is a popular pick I see, but I really don't know if this team will sustain that kind of success for 10 years. Yes, they play in the WAC, but Hawaii was just the best team in the WAC last year and Fresno will give Boise a run this year. I can just see Boise St being a 4-8 team in 6-8 years without it being too much of a surprise. Boise St isn't exactly the easiest place to sell to a big time recruit.

USC, Ohio St, Oklahoma, Texas, and possibly Virginia Tech would be my top 5 picks.

As a sleeper I might think about Notre Dame. They consistently have top 5 recruiting classes, so in a 10 year stretch it isn't unthinkable for them to be a huge power team in that time.

Actually, OU has out recruited Texas in many years. Especially this year. Barry Switzer almost never got beat by Texas in recruiting. I wouldn't soley base your prediction on recuiting. As you stated, the coach might have alot to do with it, so saying one school is going to have a higher winning percentage over the other is simply a wild guess. Both teams have hired duds for head coaches in the past. OU between Stoops and Switzer hired Blake and Smellyburger. And before Mack Brown Texas had Malkovich and Akers. And despite their recruiting had a couple teams with losing records. Personally, I wouldn't put any BCS team on this list. Even USC has had some mediocre years. And I'm betting Carroll won't be there another 10 years. Stoops has already stated he's not going to be like Bobby Bowden or Shades and coach to his grave. He's getting out before he gets old because it's a young man's game. My first pick for a list would be Boise. Or any other small conferece program that you feel will consistently get to at least 9 wins every year.

OTK, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Oklahoma looks like the safe choice, if they could ever find how to win their BCS bowls. Did you really put put Notre Dame as your sleeper :missingte (and Ohio State and Virginia Tech:lol: ) Texas has always had the recruits but underpreforms more often then not. If Pete Carrol leaves for the NFL in the next 10 years (hell maybe even a year), where will USC be? Remember what USC was like before Pete Carrol...the 6-6 season as recently as 2001?

You don't even list a single SEC team (look at the consistentcy of Georgia under Richt for example) :ohno:

Carrol has no interest in the NFL. They have been after him for years. Texas is consistently a very good team with outstanding recruits. No way you can list 5 teams that are better picks for the next 10 years. What's funny about Ohio St? So they lose to the top teams, who give a fuck? They still pile up 10 wins every year. You don't get bonus points in his bet for winning a BCS title. Why would I list a SEC team? One year Florida's the best, the next year LSU is the best and the next Georgia is the best. Alabama could easily pick up the most wins in the SEC in the next 10 years with Saban recruiting there. Why pick out of a conference with no consistency? You're not trying to pick who will win the most NC's in the next 10 years, it's who will win the most games. You're probably a huge SEC homer, and all you guys ever talk about is how good the depth is in that conference. So why the fuck would you pick a team from a deep, talented conference that can have a different champion every year? Give me OSU to win more in their conference and I'll take the money.

BYU or Boise. they are 1 or 2 in their conf every year, don't lose at home ever, and usually non-conf teams step up in class to play them. pretty much a sure 9-10 wins every year.
