The Hawaiian girls cannot sing. You must be tone deaf.
**10 Unit American Idol Singer of the Year Play on:
Jasmine Trias
Camille can sing, but she doesnt have an outgoing personality like some of the other girls. She is another typical Maui girl, laid back cruizer type of girl. But she can sing. In fact though she seemed nervous and not cutting lose, which is not her style and it will cost her in the competition, because it also about charisma and personality as much as singing ability. But, she was still highly regarded by the Judges in their disappointment of her lack of bringing it all out. Paula compared her to Lauren Hill, and thats a big compliment in itself. Still, her personality , which is not bad, will not win the audience. It will win the Guys votes, as she is a hottie.
Anyways, now on to Jasmine. Are you kidding me , when you stated that she cant sing. This girl will be the winner or at least the runner up. Simon was the only one who praised her several times. This girl has won many competitions here in Hawaii which were on Tv as well, so she knows what to do and what to sing. I think that, it will be her choices of songs that she has been deciding to sing which are, solid R&B/pop songs, and this is where these three judges experiences are in. All the others who sang were good, but their choice of songs were not the right ones. The best way that I can describe those songs were that they were gimmicky type of songs, whereas Jasmine's songs were songs which dealt with the inner emotions and feelings, that you as a singer, must be in that place within yourself in order to be able to come across with feelings and emotions. The others songs, like the one the last girl Diana sang, was a song you simply just pound out, and you dont necessarily need to have to be in a certain place to sing it.
This is why Simon said that he wasnt moved by her performance. What he is saying is he didnt feel anything. It was just a girl with a good voice singing an up beat song. They are looking for more emotions and feelings to come across from the singers. A song tells a story and relays a message, and the singer needs to make the audience feel what she is feeling inorder to be able to relate. With right song, and the right singer, they are able to make people feel the song, not just hear the words or music, but feel it as well. They want to feel the sadness, and the pain, and the joy, and the sprit, and then the triump, that the song's story is relaying. A good song will take you through the story and a good singer will be able to make you feel through her voice all the emotions and exactly what she is feeling, and which will make you feel like your the one also going through it. That is what Jasmine does. She is leading right now , because she is singing the right songs and she has the voice to sell the story. Just look in the eyes of the singers when they are singing. They also communicate the feelings, as it is the window to ones soul. Remember last years winners Rueben and Clay, when they sang their eyes also made you feel the song, and they were in the moment of the song which their eyes showed the audience they were. Watch the eyes of the other singers, they have no emotions which reflect the songs story, just their wide eyed look which is due to their excitment with just singing a song. But like I said, the eyes bring across their feeling, but it should reflect the feeling of the songs and the story within the songs that they are trying to relate.
I think all the girls are good, but the Guys suck and will not win. It will be like last year where they had two guys, but this year its going to be between two girls. I say the top two is Jasmine and one of the two black girls. Still though, if they dont pick better songs, they will go down to Jasmine. They have to remember that they are not in church or in a Vegas lounge singing, like Simon mentioned to the Bigger Black girl thats what she sounds like. But, because this is the main event and those black girls cannot change who they are, I must side with Jasmine to win it all. Anyway, this is not a Homer call in anyway. Though I am proud of our 2 local girls, from our small islands making the top 12 out of 70,000 people . Dam that is awesome. Aloha CC.
BTW, pretty good writeup and handicapping of the American Idol contestants and winner, if I do say so myself. Now you can use it to place a wager at a book taking bets on this event.GL

I agree co captain.
I bet Jasmine at 9-1, then at 10-1. And after last night she dropped to 6-1. I bet her a little more, I figure that's as high as she'll get.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Also, what makes a good singer is someone who is not insecure, but someone who is confident. You can tell by the song choices, that some of the contestants are carrying some insecurities, which is a normal thing, and more so for the older contestants as they are that age where your on your own or your out of HS and starting you life. well in this time , we all were very insecure in some way, in order to exist , survive, be accepted, be loved, or whatever else we were trying to be. Jasmine and the younger contestants in HS does not have to deal with these type of things yet as they are not at that age yet. They will later as they get older, but for now there needs and support is being covered by the parents, so they are free to test the ranges of emotions, as they have their parents to fall back on due to their age. They are having fun, whereas the others feel all the pressure and that will cost them as well. this is just another angle I felt could give Jasmine the edge again.
-Inside info you all on Jasmine. she won the Road to Fame contest that was filmed here. This was the spin off from Star Search, but it didnt last. she also has been taking singing lessons for awhile , something that they didnt touch upon. HMMMM, I wonder why, maybe because it would somehow influence the voting. Or the betting? Hope this helps out. Take the Odds with Jasmine, to be your next American Idol. Aloha CC.
