My favorite tale involing that line was last season at the Lions game I needed to check some scores. Considering the beer was building in my system, I could kill two birds with one stone.
Make my way to the bathroom, go in a stall and just before I cover the phone and yell "sports", the guy in the stall next to me yells "sports", "scores".....Even though I did not know this guy pissing in the stall next to me, at that moment I felt a bond like no other.
I no longer use the 800-TELL anymore, because the new Sprint Media Phones. Pay the $4.99 and get the ESPN Bottom Line. Real time scores, who has the ball, etc. Amazing....
The worst is when you would call and the guy doing the sports would shout "I am taking the weekend off!"
For advertising, never thought of that. Since they have everything from horoscopes to sport scores, they could profile you and the # you call from and sell the information. Oh well, it is worth it......
I did a Google search to read about Tell Me. The number was discontinued in 2012. The original company was purchased for hundreds of millions of dollars by Microsoft at one point. A company going by 24x7 has a successor number to Tell Me even though it was not widely advertised as it was used as a way to demonstrate its services to potential clients versus being used like the 800 # was.
