Wally the Green Monster has been monsternapped.
“Missing: Wally the Green Monster, If seen please call Boston Police,” Boston Police Tweeted.
Within seconds, news that the iconic Boston Red Sox mascot costume had been taken from the 100 year old park was spreading.
WHDH, the NBC affiliate in Boston, reports that someone is wearing the costume around Boston.
The Boston Globe reports security staff reported the costume stolen at 2:22 p.m. and there was a Wally sighting at 1:30 p.m. at an arts festival in Copley Square.
ESPN’s Boston Twitter feed reports that the person fled in the costume.*
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is joining in on the search.
"If you see 'Wally the Green Monster,' Say Something with the #MBTA See/Say app: http://bit.ly/MpRNx9," they tweeted.
The costume was stolen hours before the Red Sox take on their biggest rivals, the New York Yankees, in New York.* *
