Nevada at Missouri....Nevada is hitting the road for the first time this season. And this is where this team has traditionally had their problems with the BCS big boys. And they've run into a monster with Missouri. I wouldn't hold too much weight with what they did at home last week in a 35-19 loss vs Texas Tech. TT as as a rule play terrible on the road early in the season against these types of ooc opponents. Plus TT is having a little trouble getting over petty mistakes like penalties. Missouri is having no such problem. I saw a replay of their game with SE Mo. St. the other day. And it was a nice little scrimmage where Chase Daniel left very early in the game after completeing a pultry 16-17 passes. Missouri has already had a mild scare from Illinois. But that can be expected in a first game of the season on a neutral field against a BCS bowl team. The Tigers are now home free for a while and humming right along. And I guarantee you when most of these ooc teams like this come to Columbia it's going to be murderers row. Mizzou is just about like Tech with these kinds of games. They need the no mercy rule because they simply don't let up. With their "Pistol" offense I thought Nevada might be the running dog here. But no so. Mizzou has actually outrushed this team (226-224) this year, and despite the high scoring game with Illinois has allowed less yards rushing (81) than Nevada (124). This number is a big deal to me because of Texas Tech's ability to run on this team. And TT as we all know isn't a strong run team. Fellas...In my opinion Mizzou is one of the top 5 teams in the country. And they've done nothing to change my mind. They are a very similar team to Florida with their offensive schemes (Utah offense). And they have just as many weapons. Look for their defense to tightened up as the season moves along. But I guarantee you they are better than they showed against Illinois.. This is one team I will think twice before I bet against on their home turf. And Chase Daniel will be looking to put up some Heisman Trophy numbers this season. And it starts against teams like this. There is rain expected all over the midwest this weekend. But this game is being played on aritifcal turf, and Mizzou probably won't miss a beat. I think they could run the ball all day and beat this team by the number. And no look ahead game for Mizzou.. Taking Missouri (-26) over Nevada ***

Nevada's top RB and WAC preseason player of the year Luke Lippincott tore his ACL vs. TexTech and is done for the year. Also, some Nevada players talked some smack over the summer saying they didn't think much of Missouri or Chase Daniel and that he wasn't that special of a player, that they'd rather have their QB over Mizzou's. I know there is definately some bulletin board material that Pinkle has let his team know about. Not something you'd often find in a game featuring a 26 pt. favorite. FWIW

CB...Thanks for updating this. I mentioned the Lippincott injury back in my thread. He was a first team all WAC RB. This kid was absolutely irreplaceable. Ironically he tore his ACL as a freshman too. It's too bad, because he was a senior this year. I think Mizzou has their way with this team, smack talk and all. But the only problem I have with the game right now is the damned weather. Something tells me that Saturday is going to be a dog day afternoon around the country because of some sloopy weather & football.

AA...As much as I like Mizzou, I might knock this down to a two star play because of the nasty weather moving into the area this weekend.

As of right now I tend to believe weather will not be a major concern. Mizzou has an 11:30am CT kickoff and latest forecasts call for Ike to reach the Texas coast late Friday or early Saturday. I wouldn't expect any bad weather from that storm to reach Missouri until mid-afternoon Saturday at the earliest.

I'll see if I can remember to post a weather update late Friday. How things look in Austin should give a preview of what places further north can expect in a half-day or so.

Let me know AA because we've been getting rain here in Oklahoma from a different front than Ike, and it's been raining on and off here all day, and is moving east toward Missouri/Arkansas.

GS, are y'all getting storm-type rains or just showers? So far nothing at all has come through here -- mostly sunny skies with normal breezes for the last several days. When things start to turn gray, I'll post.

I called a buddy of mine down in Houston to see if he and his wife need a place to stay if they were leaving. He said they're sticking around, "hunkering down like Valerie Bertanelli and Kirstie Alley with a tub of Haagen Dazs."

Just showers here and there. 100% today and 80% tomorrow. Heading east.

Trent...I think it's a 50/50 chance. Dr. Bob is a California boy so I'm hoping there will be a little bias going into his selection.

i thought it was bc at the sharpest book i play at they took that game off the board... maybe there's an injury i don't know

Guys, I will agree that Lippincott is their best RB. BUT, he has not even been their best rusher so far this season. IN FACT, he has been the 4th best on the team. Taua has led the team, QB Kaepernick is second in rushing, and 2nd string RB, Fragger is 3rd. I point this out to say this: in the "pistol" offense, they implement several RBs into the system so they do not rely heavily on one back. What the Lippincott injury will do is limit the "freshness" of the RBs which is important in a fast paced offensive scheme. But, I do not include this loss a BIG loss to this team.

I wouldn't mind hunkering down with Valerie Bertanelli and Kirstie Alley with a tub of Haagen Dazs. Sounds kinky. I'm not particular . . . .

Valerie looks better...But you'll have to get her before she turns into a sperm whale again like Kirstie. But I would still play state fair with both of em. They sit on my face while I guess their weight.

BS...I can see Nevada scoring points here. They do have kind of a difficult offense to defend. But this team gave up 425 yards to a Texas Tech team who was out of sync on offense and had 11 penalties with numerous plays called back.. Mizzou is liable to run up 600 yards on this team. Nevada has NEVER showed they can stop any BCS power team on the road.. If they do Saturday it will be a first. If the weather cooperates I can see a 49-17 type of game. And I'm being kind to the Nevada defense. Maybe I'm overestimating Mizzou this season. But with who they have returning I looked for them to be an even more improved team this year on both sides of the ball. If they aren't at least as good as last season then it will be a little puzzling.

Greatly Appreciated

Sooner, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your hard work on your picks and analysis. Since you and SoonerBS may be both reading here, I appreciate you both (even if I sometimes get you confused). SoonerBS, your preseason analysis was awsome and contributed to my having a great week last weekend. Have you posted updates and picks for this week? Have I missed them? Once again, I appreciate you both!
On NC and over tonight.

GS,

I just reversed all my earlier Cal action (-13 early) and laid it on MD @ Bodog for +15.5. If it hits I'll end up with all this money at Bodog. Grrrrr. I guess I can still transfer $$$ to another book quickly without waiting on a check from them for 2 months. Of course if Cal wins by 14 I'll be a very happy camper.

Colorado is young, but they will be a dangerous team this year. They'll be a hard team to figure from week to week. They'll have bad games like they had against Eastern Washington. But I'll lay money that they pull off at least one or two upsets in the Big 12 this year. Right now they aren't very good on defense. The Colorado St. team they beat in the first game almost lost to Sacramento St. the next week. But physically Colorado can match up with anybody. Something tells me the Buffs will be a much better "play on" team as a dog, than if they are favorites. The West Virginia game coming up in two weeks could be interesting. The Buffs will have two weeks to prepare for the game. And it's being played on a Thursday night before a national audience with Colorado being the dog....Hmmm

Thank you GS:103631605

Here is a list of my potential Running Dogs this week.

Miss. State
Maryland
New Mexico (This will be a play for me this week)
Baylor
Southern Miss
Ga Tech
Stanford

GoSooners, love the USF and Okie picks.....i was wondering what your thoughts are on the Cal at Maryland game... i was thinkin that Cals offense is gonna be too much for a team that lost to Mid TennST and played a low scoring one score win over Del..... im with you on GTech all the way ....liking Stanford as well

great write ups ...first time posting
