Takes at least ten years to

a.. Learn the same lessons over and over, until you just know.

b.. Sniff out the winners just by looking at the lines and knowing how vegas thinks.

c.. Not giving a shit if the game is Michigan/Ohio State, or even on TV at all. Could be two bullshit teams with no one youve ever heard of.

d.. Be mature enough and responsible enough to know that part of being a gambler is recognizing your addiction, and not letting it get the best of you in forms of pressing, chasing, etc.

e.. Know when a game has a good chance at a middle.

Gas Man are you a successful gambler?

And you would be wrong. Everyone goes through different experiences and learn at different rates. Some will learn quickly and never make the same mistake again while most will never learn and be doomed to repeating the same mistakes. Some start at different places, not as gamblers but as people immediately searching for +ev.

Be mature enough and responsible enough to know that part of being a gambler is recognizing your addiction

Perhaps for yourself. I am in no way addicted to gambling. I take too much time off and the bets are meaningless to me. I don't care whether I have "action" or not, all that matters is that I experience capital growth.

one of the main things too is not stressin the game. i know we all do at the end its human nature. i remember when i first started i would wake up on my own sunday morning and even if i was still tired i jumped up nervously to turn on the tv like i had a say in the outcome.

when you no longer chase.this is the hardest thing for most people to learn.

i dont thing you can put an age group as the prime, it all depends on experience.i agree with a previous poster as my time moves on i can see 95% of the time a trap line or a line that vegas made a certain way for whatever reason.

when you can not only remember all this but put it to use in your favor time and time again, you will have hit your prime.

good thread. i'm 24 and i'm better now than i've ever been. i started posting plays at like age 16 online playing mostly pro line. now i have a sportsbook obviously. i think i'll keep better with the more experience I gain. i learn new angles all the time. i wager on horses as well and there's so much to learn there too you can learn something new each time you hit the track. i think i'll hit a big score before i'm dead with the ponies (ex- pick 7 etc) or wagering on sports. so i think i'd keep improving until like 55 years old then i'lm going downhill again haha

Started at age 18 when I hit an 8-teamer on a tip sheet during my first year of college! Think I bet $2 and won $90.........the rest as they say is history.

For the next 8 years, I cannot imagine how much money I pissed away on services, touts, losing bets, chasing, etc.........

At age 26, I really started to read, research and learn the whole betting system.....the internet & forums like this helped tremendously......sports betting has come a long way from the days of reading the USA Today & trying to pick winners!!! I started to turn the corner over the next 4-5 years, but still struggled with discipline after losing days and would still chase which proved very costly and ate away hard earned ground out profits.

The last three years have been good for the most part. I am now 33, and I would ssay that around age 30 is when I finally put everything together as far as discipline, money management, bankroll & betsize, etc...go. Had I had this technology available at an earlier age, it wouldmt have taken this long. So, you young guys in your teens an 20's need to take full advantage of this information at your fingertips and also leanr form us elder statesmen.

old thread by I never chimed in. I don't think it has anything to do with age once you reach, say 20 and realize you are not going to win money playing teasers and parlays etc etc.

I am going to say I am in my prime right now (25) because of the amount of time I have to cap on a daily basis. I work and own my own business which allows me to kick back and cap for upwards of 25-35 hrs a week. I'm sure as I get older and I get more involved with starting a family and less watching sports, I will probably suffer because my lack of time to do research.
Just at a point in my life where I spend 8+ hrs a day looking into games and watching sports. Unless I get to a point where I am retired by say 35 and have all day, everyday to cap I don't see myself getting any better at gambling.

my two cents

The results will be skewed to whatever the average age of the posters here is.

If you asked a group of 35 year olds the question, none would give an answer higher than 35.

The answer in my opinion was given earlier: experience in gambling, the more experience the better you become. I've gambled for 35 years successfully. I've learned hard work pays off in gambling. I've had great years in my 20s 30s and 40s. Now in my early fifties, I've broken even for the past 3 years all a result of complacency and lack of hard work. I became rejuvenated in January and I'm looking forward to the great years in the 50s.

It's not about age it's about having placed many many many MANY bets and by then you're usually down so much that it doesn't matter if you're in your prime lol.
