Over the weekend, one of the most grisly events in Florida history unfolded when six people and their dog were found murdered in their home in a manner that authorites would only describe as "unspeakably brutal" and apparently without motive.

Well, now they have a confession and a couple of arrests, and it turns out that six adults (and a dog) were beaten to death with baseball bats by a couple of teenagers and an adult who was pretty sure that one of the six had stolen his XBox.

So, here's the prop: How long will it take the Concerned Mothers or Compassionate Christians or whomever to take a horrible tragedy at the hands of an obviously deranged psychopath and spin it into a "look what video games have done to our children! Won't somebody please think of the children!" bullshit political campaign?

My guess would be not too long.....people take little responsibility for thier actions....always ends up with a "blame the gun" mentality.....

They will probably twist it into the video game scenario you just described......some people would twist it into something equally absurd by saying that this is further proof that baseball bats should be outlawed and the maker of the bats is facing reasonable grounds to be sued....

No one raises thier hand and says "I did it" anymore....no personal accountability or responsibility these days.....it's always somebody else or some objects fault because something happened....

Parents claim "it wouldn't/couldn't happen with my kids because I taught them better".....it always is caused by someone else's kids because mine are angels....

At least they have the death penalty down in Florida.....maybe 14 or 15 years from now after they go to trial they will pay for thier acts, if proven guilty.....

The one thing you know you won't hear is that if a loaded handgun were in the house and immediately accessible then all six people would probably still be alive.

well, such fvcked up staff, like school killings and this story, happen very rarely if ever in europe, which is pretty much western capitalsim too, so, it comes to show that the moral fabric of american society, in most parts, is seriously fvcked and needs some undoing and progress, and that's the real culpit, this murder case is so tragic, yet pathetic, it's tragicomic as we greeks say.

""This is the worst thing I've ever seen in my career," Johnson said.

Johnson called for all four to face the death penalty, although that usually is decided by a prosecuting attorney."

shit, treating death and mayhem, with more death and mayhem, and never doing any analysis on the why's of the crime, fvcking great social justice, but you know those opium smuglers responsible for establishing the great yale university also did away with a whole criminology department back in the 70s for raising such questions and look at what this whole vicious circle has gotten the u.s. into. glad i am on the other side of the atlantic boys, so fvcking glad.

Ok, JackDee, instead of being a jacka$$, I'll bite. What is the correct punishment for these malcontents assuming the why's and everything else is known?

asumming the why's and everything else is known, you d have pretty much prevented such a crime, but once all these are known, i d say lock em up for say 15-20 years somewhere, treat them with some minimum respect and try to re-integrate them in society teaching them some trade and some working skills. But, like i said the crux of the matter here is why such crimes happen in the first place, and that's got everything to do with the moral structures and establishments of a society and almost nothing to do with the crime itself. just my h.o.

Hell, why punish them at all.....just deport them to Athens....sounds like Jack is looking for a few roommates....just make sure there are plenty of bats in the house so Jack can get some sleep.

A throw away the key job IMO.
Scum are scum. Guns won't change anything.

You have a violent society, like Brazil, which has loads and loads of guns.
Loadsa poverty helps to ramp up the general level of violence too.
