Largest play I ever made was on the 49ers (-7) over the Rams in the NFC Conference Championship in January 1990. Made the play at Caesers Palace in Las Vegas right after the the Divisional Round was completed the Sunday before the game. The clerk took a double take when I said how much I wanted to lay down and called the book manager. They had to call upstairs to get clearance to take the play. They then took the entire board down for all games. Meaning the entire big board was black while they took the bet. Once taken, they posted it back up at 49ers (-8).
Waited a week for the game only to see the Rams get off to an early lead 7-0 and then looked to be getting ready to take a 14-0 lead with a deep pass to a wide open receiver only to see Ronnie Lott come out of nowhere to tip the ball away and thwart the touchdown. After that play, it was all 49ers, as they rolled to a 30-7 win and in to the Superbowl.
When I went to the cage to cash, the clerk didn't have enough money in the drawer and had to go to the strong box to get the money. I asked that a guard escort me to the parking garage and was looking around at all angles until I reached my car and then continued to drive decoy routes until I got safely home. Next day, the money went in the bank. In hindsight, should have asked for a check, but didn't want any history trail. I miss the good old days sometimes, but not often.
