The FBI has managed to unlock the iPhone of the San Bernardino gunman without Apple's help, ending a court case, the US justice department says.
Apple had been resisting a court order issued last month requiring the firm to write new software to allow officials to access Syed Rizwan Farook's phone.
But officials on Monday said that it had been accessed independently and asked for the order to be withdrawn.

Tough luck Apple, because the FBI will not tell you how they did it, so you will not be able to develop a counter prevention.

The Israeli press reported that forensics company Cellebrite, known worldwide for helping law enforcement hack into phones, was responsible.

[h=2]FBI agrees to hack the iPhone and iPod of teenagers accused of killing couple after finally cracking San Bernardino shooter's encrypted device[/h] Hunter Drexler, 18, (top) and 15-year-old Justin Staton (bottom left) are accused of murdering Staton's grandparents Robert and Patricia Cogdell, both 66, (right) at their home in Conway, Arkansas in July. Both pleaded not guilty to capital murder. On Tuesday a judge agreed to postpone Drexler's trial, due next week, to July so prosecutors could ask the FBI for help in unlocking the teenagers' Apple devices as potential evidence. The request came a day after the FBI announced it had finally gained access to an iPhone belonging San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook.

An investigation by The Mail on Sunday found the gadget (left), sold openly on the internet, could be used to gain access to private and confidential details stored on Apple iPhones. Using the device - called an IP Box - this newspaper was able to break the passcode of an Apple iPhone 5C, the model that America's Federal Bureau of Investigation, lead by James Comey (top right) had been fighting to access in order to gain information about a terrorist massacre. The FBI entered a high-stakes legal battle with Apple over the handset belonging to Syed Farook, who died with his wife (bottom right) in a gun battle with police after the couple killed 14 people in December in San Bernardino, California.
