I understand why the Pack did what they did. They drafted 2 QB's this year after Favre told them he was done. Very tough spot.

Having said that, you had a team that was 1-play away from going to the Superbowl last year. YOu turn over that team to an unproven 1st year starter. Ummmmm......I wouldve brought him back for one more year and made it clear this was it.

Yes it certainly looks bad for Ted & McCarthy now, but the Pack isnt losing b/c of Rodgers. Hes actually playing ok and will be a good QB in the league. The fact they made this move and are now 5-6 while Favre and the Jets are 8-3 & in 1st place is probably the worse possible nightmare for Thompson & MCCarthy though.

i hate this question - i am from wisconsin and a lifelong packer fan.....

basically here is the deal - Favre is loved, but is a total douchebag.

he told everyone a few years ago he was going to be done soon, so we spent a 1st round draft pick on a QB... then he decides not to leave....
so its a wasted pick we could have use on a WR for him, or defense to help.... but he comes back and we stick with him (obviously, hes brett favre)

Rodgers came on to play when Favre was done and favre dicked everyone one around - so we needed to make a decision - do we want Aaron Rodgers as our QB for potentially the next 5-10 years, or do we want Favre for one more..... again, this had to be decided AFTER he retired and AFTER we already spent another high pick on a QB instead of something else.... thanks Favre, you clearly care about the team and fans.....

Would we be better this year with Favre? Probably
Will we be better the next 5 years with Rodgers vs some other random QB? I think so. Look around the league and tell me how many teams would take Rodgers over their current QB in a heartbeat....

Brett Farve would have not done any better with this team. They can't run the ball, they could last year.

As for the Jets, adding Faneca, Woody, Pace and (I am drawing blank on their run stuffer, that is why they are where they are. Leon Washington has been a stud this year.

Guarantee Farve fucks up in the playoffs again.

A few things from a Packer lifer. I completely agree with the move. Rodgers only had one year left on his contract. It was time to take off the training wheels and see what we have. Favre stated himself before he un-retired. If he came back anything else but a Super Bowl win is a disappoinment and that is a tall order and he is not up for that. Would you want this type of attitude back? What if the started the same as this year? Can you say train wreck?

This move was made for the future. We are a young team and will only get better. The offensive line has struggled this year but I am very impressed with Rodgers. Although last night was tough for him their Defense was absoloutely horrible and people need to look at that.

I was of the opinion that Rodgers would be another Chris Chandler (aka Mr injury). He has proven me wrong so far with that. Packer nation needs to cheer their asses off for Favre. It looks like they will make the playoffs and we will get a 2nd rd draft pick and maybe Favre can get them to the SuperBowl for a 1st rounder!! The time was right for the move.

Knew these threads would pop up after a GB loss.

Tired of dealing with this question. Favre held this team hostage for his decisions and thought he was BIGGER than the team. Biggest ego of any athlete. You cannot run a team with your QB's retiring and then not.

As stated in previous threads, Brett probably would have helped this team with more wins. We need to look at the future and shoring up the line play.
Rodgers is well liked by team mates and will be a solid player for many years to come. He has done all the right things. His managing of the game needs work but that will come with experience.

12-14-08:

the jaguars (5-9) won at home for the first time since september, ended green bay’s slim playoff chances and left the packers (5-9) arguing, pointing fingers and searching for answers after another fourth-quarter collapse.
“we shouldn’t be having this miscommunication in week 15 of the season,” quarterback aaron rodgers said. “disappointing. You get an opportunity to win the game down the stretch and can’t do it.”

I voted "no" when this poll was made. Gotta switch my vote to yes now though. This team is just mass underachieving. 5-8. What a joke.

Rodgers > Favre.

Not even close either. Rodgers has absolutely outplayed Favre this year. If you watch the Jets games it sometimes seems like they win despite of Favre's play, not because of him.

Rodgers should be on his way to the pro bowl this year and Favre should be on his way to another poor playoff performance (if they get in) and a first round exit.

From what I have heard, Favre was pressed to make the decision to retire or to play in the spring and they wanted a answer right then and their. Favre wasn't ready to make a decision at that time. So since his heart wasn't in it to play he retired. If he is guilty of anything its not being able to make up his mind to play in a sufficent amount of time for the team. Very understandable after what happened at the end of the season. They should have waited some more time. Most of us, outside of GB's managment team , knew he would want to come back after having some time to recover from previous year..

BTW , has Rodgers even won a 4th qtr comeback yet in his career. Lets get one of those under his belt before we annoint him better then Favre

The Pack have lost 6 games by 5 points or less. They have also scored more points in the 4th qtr than any other team this year. I believe they have the 2nd youngest roster in the NFL.

The biggest issue they have faced this year IMO is the loss of Nick Barnett as their defensive team leader. He was able to cover for AJ Hawk's lack of speed at linebacker. Nowhere was their lack of defensive speed more evident than on MNF against the Saints.

Oh and Ted Thompson is universally hated by Packer fans. :toast:
