Taking Jeter out on defense with 2 outs in the 9th? I thought this was goodbye to the stadium, not goodbye to Jeter. Jeter should have not allowed it to happen. Totally killed a great moment; very strange.

Have no problem with it, Girardi wanted DJ to get him the acknowledgement from the fans.
Jeter had to sign off on it in advance. So you know DJ had no problem with either.

Goodbye Stadium, thank you for years of thrills and memories.

When I first saw it I questioned it. Doesn't he want to be on the field for the last out of the game?

Then I thought about it and it was the Captains goodbye to the building that gave him so many memories. He deserved to go out on his own because he has done so much for that team and it was his team. He got the standing O for what he's done in that stadium. Great moment. They handled that brilliantly from start to finish, but what's new? They handle big moments wonderfully, and always have.

I'm going to miss the place even though I'm not a Yankee fan. Talk about history in a building.

I wouldve wanted to be on field personally if I was him.

Jeter is so unselfish that he probably wanted Wilson Betemit to be out there to get in the box score.

To Yankee Stadium: Thanks for the memories.

To ESPN and the Yanks: Why did you have to start the freakin' game so late. Now I have to start the week on 2 hours sleep. Thanks.

Yanks in 2009!(hehehehe)

I like when managers pull players off the field for a defensive replacement to get recognition from the fans. It should be done more often. It can be a pretty cool moment.

What Jeter has done for the Yankees in the late 20th century, early 21st century, is basicly the same thing Ruth did in the early 20th century.

Before Ruth came to the Yankees in 1920, NY never won anything,
Once Ruth came over, the rest is history.

Before Jeter joined the Yankees in mid 1995 the Yankees never won anything for years.

Both are largely responsible for the Yankee success in their eras.

What the Yankees were saying was, "this is the house that Ruth built, and Jeter is closing the house that Ruth built"

Jeter will be opening the new Yankee stadium, "the house that Jeter built" so to speak.

By putting the spotlight on Jeter last night, the Yankees were emphasising a transition.

I thought the Bernie Williams drama was 3x worse(didnt see the Jeter pull)...............

Yogi deserves 13x more respect than Bernie Williams..................

YOGI WAS/IS AWESOME!!

As a Red Sox fan, I'm jeolous that you Yankee fans can call Yogi your own.........kudos to him and all of you!

jeter has epitimized what the yanks stand for as well as anyone that's ever put on the uniform, i was glad to see him come out and get the respect he so rightly deserve's.

the funny thing is jeter is so bad defensively girardi should have been taking him out of close games with a lead late during the season, but jeters ego would never let that happen

I'm not so sure the Yanks are good only cuz of Derek or that he really is the epitome of a Yank. Is this just because he is on TV so much now? I agree he is a good guy but it's still a team and they have other star players... their character might not be up to par with his (the current players) but it's a team nonetheless.

The place wasn't built on Jeter and it didn't come back alive cuz of Jeter. The place never died--it was always there--since the time that RUTH built it. It's the moms and the dad's that kept it alive. It's the kids that make it an honor to step through the doors. It's the fans that keep the frenzy surging through the nation taht we call Yankee Stadium >:)

Congrats

Comparing Jeter to Ruth is so laughable I won't even discuss it. My point was that it was supposed to be about Yankee Stadium. Why put Jeter in the spotlight? Is he bigger than Yankee Stadium? Complete bonehead decision by the Yanks brass and classless move by Jeter for letting it happen. No one player is bigger than the game.
