Derek Jeter grounded out to end the game and go 0 for 5 as the Yankees lost to the Red Sox 3-2 in 12 innings at Yankee Stadium. Manny Ramirez led off the top of the 12 with a long double and scored on a sac fly to put the Sox in front. Mike Timlin retired the Yanks in order to get the save. Keith Foulke pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Nothing would be better than seeing George's $180 million get them all nice seats in front of their TVs in October

I remember how everyone loved it back when Daniel Snyder tried to buy a super team with the Skins and then they sucked. This would be ten times better!

Earliest date in 7 years for the Yanks to reach 10 losses.

The Yankees came in hitting .228, next to last in the American League, and looked every bit as bad. They went 4-for-36, and except for three singles in the seventh never really looked comfortable at the plate. Derek Jeter went 0-for-5 and doesn't have a hit in 21 at-bats, the longest hitless streak of his career. Bernie Williams, dropped to eighth in the order, also went hitless in five at-bats and is in a 1-for-31 slide.

As the majority of you know, I am a diehard Bosox fan.

Could I gloat of the 5-1 record that the Red Sox now have over the Yankees this year??

YES!

But all this means very LITTLE!!!

ALL I HAVE TO DO IS REMIND MYSELF OF 1978 WHEN THE RED SOX HELD A 14.5 GAME LEAD OVER THE YANKEES IN JULY AND ALLOWED THE YANKEES TO OVERTAKE THEM.

Give me a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, then I will pop-off!!

Fishhead-
I've been a long time Red Sox fan as well. The only reason why I wrote "Go Boston" earlier in this thread and nothing else is because of the past. Nothing to really brag or get excited about until the season is over and Boston wins a World Series Championship. I'll also feel much better when Nomar returns and Boston gets some offensive production from their slacking second base position. Here's to you also Fish

I think the BELLHORN/POKEY platoon at 2b will be just fine.

Bosox have more than enough offensive firepower if all healthy.

Neither one are known for their offense, but it still would be nice to see at least one of them hit their own weight.

FWIW - Mark Belhorn drove in the winning run today with a shot to center sac. fly in the 12th inning. He hit it well enough for Manny Ramirez to walk home from 3rd.

Bellhorn has a little pop in his bat....and Pokey will supply excellent defense and speed.

The latter which may be more important on this team.

Bellhorn would be capable of hitting 20 homers if he were to get enough at-bats.

He hit 27 dingers for the Cubbies a couple years ago in fact..........with less than 500 at-bats.

I really shouldn't bag on Bellhorn being the hometown boy that he is. I like the fact Kapler is with Boston now especially when someone like Nixon is out.

Manager Terry Francona spoke with injured SS Nomar Garciaparra, a day after Garciaparra ran to test his sore right Achilles' tendon, and was cautiously optimistic. ``Nomar will do the functional stuff again (Sunday). We can only see how he feels,'' Francona said. ``We don't want setbacks. He has to start using it more and more without setbacks.'' Garciaparra is still a while away from playing rehab games. ...
