Word on the street is that Vinny Magliulo, WYNN's Races & Sportsbook Director has resigned. The reason given is that Vinny wants to spend more time with his family. Thats unfortunate because Vinny is a true bookmaker, unlike many of the empty suits that run Vegas sportsbooks.

The "Spend More Time With The Family" press release is an obvious spin. This place is what, all of 2 months into operations, and now just before football the sports book director quits? He could have spent time with the family before the place opened so it's a problem with what limits for football and what the property approach is going to be with the betting public that made him walk. This means they are taking a corporate hard line with wise guy action and Wynn will just be another square joint if someone with Vinny's resume walks 6 weeks before kickoff.

Not like the place has been booking sharps all this time. I just get a sense its the typical malaise that always hits new openings. Before they open its exciting, you think of all the great things you can do. Then reality strikes and you realize you are spending half your time arguing with some stooge begging for a comp for his $200 in horse action.

I dread who will take his place. Probably an empty suit.

Wynn needs to bring back his guy Vaccaro, get those overnights back up early, get the Gaming Board to reinstate real phone accounts...remember when.

Here is the stupid thing. So they have approved and are working on regulations for GPS phones to make bets. Will get rid of the dumbass pagers. But they still are going to have $2200 a day limit. DUH! They made this big deal about "maybe" someone games the system so they put in a limit to block that. With this GPS phone they know exactly where you are, yet they don't change the limit. They can't say its to protect against sharps, they are mostly gone now. What a mess they make of something so simple.

WB, they killed a good thing, I almost like staying oblivious to these issues, as I see how frustrating it is to you and other LV/Gaming Industry followers.

I left the state because of it. They practically posted a no sharps desired sign. That and kicking me out. They do not want professional sports bettors. They want wall to wall high limit slot players. Went from top FROG to banishment before you could say corporate takeover.

Best Wishes...OF:howdy:

I still can't figure out why they even have sportsbooks! They could just add another one-hundred 1$ slots and they will get what they want.

Corporate has a very hard time understanding the value of a race and sportsbook to the casino.

They tend to just look at the bottom line the book makes...........not taking into consideration the amount of people a decent book contributes to the bottom line in other areas of the casino by the amount of patrons it brings into the joint.

Have blown my top off at a few corporate meetings discussing this very thing and believe me the majority have no hands on experience on running a casino more than the filling station attendant up the block.

LV Sports Betting

The Coast properties take a decent bet. For example their $3000 College Basketball 1st Half limits are as strong as anything off shore. Goes higher from there for limits on the more mainstream betting and you can cash tickets at various properties. But as stated earlier you have to be there or pay someone to be available on a cell since phone betting is limited statewide.

...not to be skeptical, but has anyone confirmed this?

as i have said before - hotels wants sportsbooks 2 times during the year:

Super Bowl

First Weekend of NCAAs

other than that - if they were to disappear the rest of the year the books wouldn't cry at all

why do hotels have books? my take is:

My hotel has to have one as long as yours does. if i don't offer one - then someone might stay at your hotel instead of mine and i don't want that for i want EVERYONE to stay at my hotel. and when you stay at my hotel - if you bring your wife and/or kids - that is more money i can make from you and your family. you are at my property more often and i can make more money

if all hotels got together and could agree to ALL drop sportsbooks - my guess is they would in a nanosecond

but that will never happen so as long as your hotel has a book - mine must have one, too

Its the resort mentality that keeps them around, the idea that every sort of gambling and amenity is available. Also realize adding more slots really won't do much. The slots are underutilized during all but the very busiest time. Go to Illinois, Arizona, or California casinos and you will see what full utilization of slots is.

The books do earn a profit and aren't in jeopardy of closing. They are just victims of the corporate mentality which says you get more efficiencies and better margins out of everything you do each year. If you made a million this year, I want 1.2 next. And while you are at it, cut a person or two would you. That is the corporate mentality that has made the 98% payback slot an endangered species and 6/5 blackjack a hot new trend.

I quit and never looked back. I just couldn't do it anymore with the LV corporate mentality that's taken over. I've always worked with owners personally and they let me do my job. I always made them money and always gave them first count. But it's different now. The LV corporate twits just don't get it. If my son buys a casino I'll help him out but otherwise it's Pasadena, El Paso.....Scotty
