The orange peel was actually what the Godfather had in his mouth when he had the heartattack in the garden. Tim Dirks film site can explain the symbolism behind the orange peel. I know I have read it, but I can't recall exactly what it represents.

Groups like Wide Spread Panic, Drive By Truckers and Warren Haynes of Allman Brothers Band fame love to play at the Orange Peel.
