By no means do I think Canada's system is ideal, but it's nowhere near as bad as this bill, passed by Congress on Saturday night.

All I can say is, Holy Shit!

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704795604574519671055918380.html

Some highlights:

• Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a "qualified plan." If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a "grace period" to switch you to a "qualified plan," meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there's no grace period. You'll have to enroll in a qualified plan as soon as any term in your contract changes, such as the co-pay, deductible or benefit.

• Sec. 224 (p. 118) provides that 18 months after the bill becomes law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services will decide what a "qualified plan" covers and how much you'll be legally required to pay for it. That's like a banker telling you to sign the loan agreement now, then filling in the interest rate and repayment terms 18 months later.

On Nov. 2, the Congressional Budget Office estimated what the plans will likely cost. An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income. A family earning $102,100 a year before taxes will have to pay a $15,000 premium plus an estimated $5,300 out-of-pocket, for a $20,300 total, or 20% of its pre-tax income. Individuals and families earning less than these amounts will be eligible for subsidies paid directly to their insurer.

• Sec. 303 (pp. 167-168) makes it clear that, although the "qualified plan" is not yet designed, it will be of the "one size fits all" variety. The bill claims to offer choice—basic, enhanced and premium levels—but the benefits are the same. Only the co-pays and deductibles differ. You will have to enroll in the same plan, whether the government is paying for it or you and your employer are footing the bill.

• Sec. 59b (pp. 297-299) says that when you file your taxes, you must include proof that you are in a qualified plan. If not, you will be fined thousands of dollars. Illegal immigrants are exempt from this requirement.

• Sec. 412 (p. 272) says that employers must provide a "qualified plan" for their employees and pay 72.5% of the cost, and a smaller share of family coverage, or incur an 8% payroll tax. Small businesses, with payrolls from $500,000 to $750,000, are fined less.

Wonder how many small businesses will close up shop or just lay off employees...

so i got up this morning and my dog had gotten sick and thrown up in his kennel (he sleeps on the floor next to my bed, at least he had the good sense to go in the kennel). i took out the bottom part and i go to the side of the house to spray it down. it was like 8:00 and i'm in my shorts and flip flops, expecting to make quick work of it.

any way, as i'm hooking the hose to the faucet there was a woman standing at the foot of the driveway. i kind of give the typical friendly greeting and expect to get back to the business at hand, and i'll be damned if she doesn't start approaching me (she had some little doggy that she'd been walking). i'm thinking, "no way in hell is she gonna come all the way into the yard without being invited", but sure enough she did.

she goes on to tell me that she's my backdoor neighbor (yeah, my first thought was WTF), and after a moment i realized she meant that she lived in the house behind mine, which is seperated by a tall wooden fence. so okay, it's always good to know who your neighbors are, but she wasn't done yet.

i'll be damned if she doesn't ask me if i'm a rightie or a leftie, so i go with the "i don't really keep up with it" because now i'm at the point of "will this bitch go walk her fucking dog already". so she informs me that she is a moderate liberal (yeah right) and she thinks the health care bill is a good thing, and starts talking about how she was getting more on her check the last couple months which was helping to pay for her house, but she was still struggling, and then informed me of a couple conditions she had that she was getting money for, yet it still wasn't enough. she even bent her head to show me where she had lost a little hair.

so anyway, because i'm cursed with being polite even under the most pressing circumstances, i'm kind of nodding and trying to get her to leave me alone. my dog was in the back yard and she started talking about how she had seen him a couple weeks ago trying to pull the branches out of the trees in my back yard. long story short, she starts telling me i should keep an eye on him because he could get something stuck in his intestine and choke and die.

any ways, as she finally turned away to leave, i couldn't help but shake my head and think "damn liberals".

I just do not understand who this is benefiting?

The same big insurance companies who've been gaming the system for years, that's who.

How do the estimated premiums in the article compare to private insurance rates that you guys pay now?

lots of them will lay off employees, happens each and every time government takes money from them. Each and every means literally 100%, no exceptions, always happens, never fails..................................

but what do you expect from the government is your salvation crowd.

many will look to sub out more work forcing people to buy their own insurance

it's not rocket science, it's common sense

after 2010, nobody will be talking about the incredible landslide of 1994 anymore.

I hope he does, because he won't be forced out based on anything he's done to date, and I don't anticipate such an issue to arise.

So if's he's not President in 2012, then there was a catastrophic event, and I don't wish that on any person, nor do I want that for our country.

plus, that would give us the senile 3 Iraq Joe who still speaks to dead people where Katie's restaurant used to stand.

I wonder if he thinks the food is good

We may then witness a duplicate of Carter vs. Reagan in 2012. Could be a worse onslaught...

How have you been. I missed you.

Anyway, How about the provision to end a new born sucking it's thumb in the mother womb and telling the old people it's more cost effective if you die! (paraphrase of course)

Talk about absolute fucking insanity. A family of four will have to pay premiums of $15,000 and out of pocket of $5,300?!!! Remind me again how this is reform? I don't recall spending $20,300 for Healthcare and since most people I know are either working for companies or on Medicare, I fail to see how this is making things better. Anyone with half a brain knows the only way we'll be able to pay for this is with substantially more taxes (including a VAT which will take care of all the savings for them poor folks). At what point are people going to jump off this wagon and admit that they've been duped?!!!!

Well the article was written by the lady who gave us the term "death panels".

So quite likely the article is heavily biased cause 20 percent of pre tax income for insurance would not work

That would just invite tax cheating of epic proportions, people working off the books etc. etc.

One size fits all would be unjust. People in their 20's dont even really need health care. So making them pay the same as people in their fifties would not be fair

I would like to see the counter argument before coming to a conclusion on this

That’s not as far fetched as you may think. With the delusional administration we have now anything’s possible.

Nothing wrong with hearing the counter argument. Or better yet, why wait. You can always go to the bill and decide for yourself.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.3962:

I know you're smart enough not to let someone think for you with their counter argument.

I also think you should keep in mind that whatever the counter argument is, it will not change the estimate by the CBO (which is supposed to be a referee to make sure the left or the right doesn't try to sensationalize and make bogus claims). Their claim will stay and that should scare Americans enough.

"On Nov.
